I had this mesh sitting on the hard drive unfinished for a while so I decided to finish it. I have kept it Sub D and it has has a finished poly count of 7.5k I suppose I had better paint it.

Yes a paint job would be excellent!
Nice clean looking mesh. Could we see some wireframes?

And Bill slams into the door as he runs into the room!!!

Steps on his tongue and trips....

ahem...

I suppose I had better paint it

Squeeze me!? What on earth is that "suppose" doing in that sentence!!!!

Damn right you better!

An A-8?

I have corrected a few inaccuracies in the mesh that were kindly pointed out over at milmesh, base of fin ,rudder post and gun ports. I have attached a partial wire to give a clear image of mesh.Off to the paint shop.:D

looks little odd in place (flow wise) but it look good otherwise :P

Mikala
12th January 2008, 10:56 AM
Okay who melted the wireframe?

TheGreatRaja
12th January 2008, 10:57 AM
I think it was Bill when he drooled all over it :D
geeze get a mop!

Damn... my secret is out!

Now I'll have to kill both of you!!!

I don't think that first one is going to fly... I don't care how much power you put in it. :)

Here you go BillS ,a fresh coat of paint.Just started the paint job, still a few tweaks needed around wing root poly flow. The scheme is the aircraft of "Wumm" Schnell who was a highly successful ace and a long-time commander of 9/JG 2.

BillS

Oh I like that!!!

That looks good.

BillS

and he really had something against spitfires by the look of it.

Started diffused and bump maps and added a dirt layer to color map

BillS

I didn't see it.. Are you modeling in Modo or LW? Just wondering if it WAS modo if you were painting it there?

Modeling SubD in MODO and painting in Photoshop

BillS

Have you tried painting in modo? I haven't had chance to play with it.

Have not got around to it yet myself.

A small amount of progress on weathering and wing top specular map.

Nice work.

It's coming along nicely.

Have added specular maps to fuse and think I am gettin the hang of it.

Hehey :) You've made some good progress with the paintjob. Will keep an eye on this :)

BillS
20th January 2008, 07:38 AM
Its getting better and better. The spec seems a little flat though. There should be some variations in it for ripples in the skin. Smoke from the guns would have a lower spec value. The seams on the panel lines would have a higher value. Same with all the little bits that the crews and pilots would play with would have higher or lower values depending on who would be using it. Pilots would be cleaner than crew etc. Its the variations that bring it to life.

It is looking good, brings me back to my old 1/8th scale RC model I had as a kid..would love to see this dogfight with a Spitfire or a P-40:)

Here is a little render of the Butcher Bird and my B17 showing Siegegfried "Wumm" Schnell of JG2 at work.

BillS

Very Very NICE! The smoke on the fort could use some work and some motion blur to give them a sense of motion. But hey.. its still a wip :)

It looks nice :) A slight detail would be, that the B-17 can fly on 3 engines ;)

NOT if the fire in the wing or cannon shells cut aileron controls. If you look at some of the camera gun film from the bombing offensive you will see lots of B17 falling from the sky with no apparent fire, usually indicates fatal flight control damage.:p Here is an update on the image with a little motion blur and organised smoke for BillS

Cougar12dk
29th January 2008, 04:07 AM
True. Presuming the control hadn't been cut, was what I meant ;) :D

I think you could use some dirt on the nose bubble. Right now it's difficult to see that the B17 even has a nose on it.

Otherwise this is a very nice looking picture. The composition is very dramatic.

This is coming along quite nicely. I happen to know a certain person (I won't mention any names like BillS, ahem) who has a pilot you can stick in it too. If he's lost it in a recent drive crash let me know and I'll send it to you.

What type of German airplane are you try model is this a FW-190?
strange details and shape.
Can you post please your reference images.
Texture no good ,airplane look allot better without texture.
Frame arond glass Aircraft Cockpit look very flatt obsolutly no depth.
Thats all my critique for now.
Sorry for my spelling !!!

@jullia
well, to me it looks like an FW, after all, a quick google learns:

Fw 190A-4 Flown by Siegfried Schnell

Both Siegfried Schnell and his Fw 190A-4 were somewhat unusual. The plane because of its oddly looking markings and its pilot because of his oddly finished career.
it could be the angle the plane is in, to make it look odd, since the previous screenshots showed the accuracy to a real FW-190 ...

@chrisken
very nice so far,
besides, did you know:
Three of the (90) victories were scored against US heavy bombers.

BillS
29th January 2008, 05:10 PM
Must be the camera angle, because it came out really well. One thing on the new one. You changed the lighting on it. The shadow of the tail, on the wing of the fort just doesn't match the overall lighting. Still seems a little to ambient to. I like the new smoke and MB. It could use a bit higher AA to smooth it out a bit. But its progressing quite well :)

chrisken:
Wow nice pic, very dramtic! One more Yank downed.
Two little nags:

When I look at the wireframe, I see the cooling fan just behind the propellor the wrong way around. It now draws air across the BMW 801D-2 instead of blowing air across it.
In the final pic (where it has downed the B-17), the cooling fan doesn't have any motion blur whereas the fan rotates at the same rpm as the propellor (they were mounted on the same shaft).Other than these two small things I have only admiration for this work. Top notch!

LOL now there is a good set of eyes :) I didn't even notice that!

Haha... thanks Eth!

Oh, and this is a Focke Wulf FW-190A-8. The bulge in front of the cockpit is the indication. The bulge hides the two MG 131.

chrisken:
Could you show us the bottom of your Butcher Bird? I'm curious if you've added the FuG 16 ZY antenna.

Just another little scene as I work on the textures for these beasts.

BillS

I think you nailed just the right amount of grain in that one!

Timstone
8th February 2008, 11:37 AM
That looks absolutely gorgeous.
*drools a bit*
Like Bill said, just the right amount of grain. Top notch!
But, to be a bit of a nag, again no motion blur on the cooling fan. ;)

A little bit more work on the textures and I promise to blur the fan next render.

Overall, very nice work, but there are a few things I notice.

1) There are no control surfaces on these aircraft, other than the elevators on the B-17. I don't know if you modelled the flaps and ailerons separately or not. If you did then for some reason they end up looking like one piece with the wing.

2) The gun ports on the nose of the fighter could use some carbon black around them.

3) At the moment, the panel lines on the B-17 look too drawn on (but I suspect you're working on that).

4) The bump textures on the fighter look really good, especially the "ribs" along the trailing edges of the wings.

Thanks for the comments , I see your point about control surfaces, ailerons elevators and rudders are modeled on all my aircraft ,I will have to increase size of gaps. Update on textures attached.
