August 2011 Photo Challenge
The winner of June's contest was Reaperman so he chose the next topic.
Topic For August
Space
Consider all of the meanings of this simple little word, then let's see your photos!
Rules as they exist thus far:
Submissions are open from August 1st to August 31st and are limited to 2 per person.
Sky's the limit for resolution (though it's understandable if people don't want to share highest res originals if they don't want to)
Probably good to keep file size under 2MB
Photo-manipulation is okay (retouching, red eye, colour balance tweaks etc) (in this case a before and after would be required)
Obvious photo-shopping is discouraged (no adding stuff that isn't there at all, or using canned 'make pretty picture' presets)
Content-aware deletions/fill-ins are cheating...:p
Submitting photos which were submitted in previous challenges is discouraged. Use a new one!

Neat! I keep meaning to work out how to do a time exposure with my DSLR...
Though given the amount of light pollution, it might need to be rather short...

Posting photos of my namesake will not ensure a winning entry!
:)
Nice shot Reaperman.

This is my first entry for this month. I call it Inner Space. Of course, I couldn't exactly photograph the inside of my eyeball, but this is close enough.
The image is straight out of the camera, but was cropped. It was shot with a Canon Powershot A2000IS using the Macro setting.

This will be my second entry.
I call it "Wide Open Space".
This is a shot of the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia, Canada taken from a ridge of hills known as the Look Off.

I was not sure if I was going to have something for this month, as I tend to interpret Space rather literally!
Then I started thinking about positive and negative space, and using the sky as a backdrop, when I bumped into this.
Poems on paper airplanes suspended on threads across the sky!
Polarising filter to darken the sky, and auto levels used on the image.

And then this one - one of the nice things about living in London is that public spaces are often used in surprising ways, and I'm a bit partial to the odd bit of unexpected large artwork!
So, here is a "public space" put to good use with a giant straw fox on the roof of the Hayward gallery, South Bank of the Thames!
