Hey Guys,
Almost 3 years ago, I posted a thread having a problem with Adobe Premiere Pro, CS2, where when I try to render out the final movie, I get this stupid error message saying...
"Adobe Premier Pro failed to return a video frame. Cancelling Operation"
You can find my original thread here...

Well, CC Rider gave me a solution where blowing away the preference files and/or using a different user profile might help, and it did. It worked great for a very long time. Occasionally, the problem would come back, but I'd simply use CC's trick and I was off again.
Well, I just finished rendering out a long project in Lightwave, and brought all the clips into Premiere, but that stupid error message pops up again, but this time it won't go away. I've tried CC's trick, a new profile, searching on the net for any other possible solutions, but nothing has worked.
Due to this problem, and other issues, I've even re-imaged my hard drive, but still the problem persists.
I know this is a long shot, but does anybody have any idea?
Thanks in advance,
A very very desperate Oldcode
P.S. On the net, I've read that this problem is even occurring in later versions of Premiere. Even up to CS5 I think.

A couple of questions:
What OS are you using?
What codec (if any) are you using?
What frame resolution are you using (HD, non standard, etc)?
I've noticed with my Vista machine for example, that certain programs will get hung up by the OS in an idle, and could possibly time out the program?
Certain codecs don't like or can use all resolutions. Now I imagine you are probably doing something with the same codec at the same resolution you have for other successful projects, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
Just a few things to think about...

Hi Jack,
Thanks for your help.
I'm using Windows 7 64. I don't think it's a codec problem because no matter what codec I use, or what kind of movie I try to make, it still bombs out. Even on uncompressed AVI. I usually do my movies in 800x600, which is not standard, but the problem occurs even if I use one of the many standard presets. I've had this software for several years now and had it working on this computer for the year and a half since I built it.
I've never experienced the time out problem you describe Jack, at least not that I know of.

FYI,
I'm using CS2, which is very old. I just got off the phone with Adobe and no big surprise, they would not help because it's too old. I have an "educational" version of the software and I think part of the problem is since its so old, it's no longer compatible with a lot of today's OS tools, I have found out that although the license on CS2 education does not "officially" expire, Adobe goes out of its way not only to not support it, but to try and kill it. When I first installed CS2 on my computer a year and a half ago, I was able to download an update, but now I can't for the updates are not there any more. Everybody I talked to says that CS2 is not supposed to work in Windows 7, especially 64 Bit, and I was lucky that I got it to work as long as long as I did.
When I tried to reinstall the software after re-imaging, all the normal patches that might have fixed the problem are no longer available. We all know how nasty they can be about copy protection and are constantly bugging people to upgrade.
I'm waiting on some more information now. If what I think is going to happen happens, I'm just going to bite the bullet and order Adobe Production Premium CS5.5. I found one vender that has it for not too bad a price and it will give me everything I need.
Premiere still works so I can do the actual editing, it just won't let me render out a movie. I can have most of my projects done by the time the new software gets here. Then I can just render them out.
Thanks for listening. :)

I'm wondering about the fix you used to use that doesn't work anymore...
Something to do with your profile you said?

CC Rider said the two ticks that worked for him was one, creating a new profile. Sometimes Windows profiles can get corrupted and cause all kinds of problems.
And two: For me, the trick that usually worked was deleting the preference files. In XP, they are here...
C:\Documents and Settings\[your user profile]\Application Data\Adobe\Premiere Pro\2.0
Usually, until now. Oh well. :(

What about running a VM and installing it there if it doesn't work with win7 64? Got to be worth exploring the options before shelling out for CS5.5

I just grabbed a Registry fixer program yesterday and had over 4000 error's repaired.
It has really sped up my machine. Most were entries for stuff that is no longer installed. The two big hitters were Microsoft's Telescope and Google Maps.
Takes time to go through all that crap even if it isn't used.
I remember with Lightwave 5.6 (especially with Modeler) I used to have to keep a fresh copy of the cfg files on hand, when Modeler would choke.

Hey Crook,
Not a bad idea. I did look into that because I want to get into visualization anyway, but one of the things I forgot to mention is although the suite installed okay and took my serial number, for some reason After Effects would not work. It kept asking me for a key, and the serial number on the box would not work. Adobe would not help and I need after effects so between needing those two programs, and getting upgraded to what ever new features are in CS5, I decided that was the best way to go.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Cheers!
