Okay, so here's the deal. I'm working on the same scene and file in Layout I've been working on for a while. Now, when I hit s for save, it starts playing through the whole timeline! What the heck is going on?!
Evil little crazy minions from the deep, dark corners of the underworld have taken control of my precious Lightwave in an attempt to dominate our physical plane! That's it, isn't it? DIE, evil minions, DIE!!! RARRRR!!!!

Hmm... keyboard shortcuts have gone all screwy and/or reverted back?
The blaming of evil minions story is a little far fetched as they don't get the training they used to... ;)

Great, so there goes my evil minion scapegoat ;)
Actually, it's not a keyboard shortcut, as far as I can tell. I created a new scene and animation with a random object, and hit s for save with no problems. But the other scene file still does it.
Any other ideas?

Unfortunately not right now being scene specific - perhaps a plug-in interjecting the normal shortcut keys used in every other scene - - sort of like a .dot file in Word can give one specific document its own shortcuts. . .
Just thinking aloud - - I'll have some coffee and try some other thought processes soon ;)

Okay, I checked the keyboard shortcut and it remains the same. I hit s and the box appears that says "Blah blah blah.lws already exists. Overwrite?" When I hit Enter or click Yes, it starts playing through the whole timeline. Geez, it's acting like Microsoft.

I tried a previous version of the scene, and it saved no problem. So I used that. Still no idea what went wrong, but I'm listening to They Might Be Giants, so that must've solved the problem ;)

do what I do on my friend's pc, use the file menu, if you have one, that is.
my friend's got bryce 5.5 on his system.
he doesnt have internet most days, seeing as he relies on his sister's wireless connection, so, if she's not home, no intenet.(hence why I'm running around finding things for him).

Trying to save using the file menu did the same thing. But it seems to be working now.

I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago, in my case it turned out to be caused by (i think) windows (XP Home) throwing a wobbly with some of my USB devices.
Once I unplugged them LW went back to normal.

I agree: It's always good to try the simple solutions first. Sometimes you get lucky, and that all it is! ;)

Good to know I'm not the only one. I will say that it has reinforced using "Shift s" to save multiple versions so that I can "jump back" if there's a problem. It was a life-saver in this situation.
