The latest issue of 3D World, April - #102, has a free, full version of Luxology's imageSynth on their resource CD. This is an outstanding program for generating seamless textures from single or mutliple images sources. Up until now it has sold for $99. Included on the DVD are tutorial videos and there is another tutorial in the pages of the magazine.

The same issue also has 50 of 3D World's favorite CG shorts on their double sided DVD and an extensive tutorial in Maya for modeling, texturing, rigging, animating, and rendering a dinosaur by Weta director Steve Lambert.

All in all an excellent month for this magazine.

I don't think it's out yet in the States. I checked today in B&N and they still had issue 101. Hopefully it will arrive soon.

I subscribe to the magazine here in Boston and I received my copy a few days ago. I believe subscribers get it about two weeks before the stores carry it. For the price of the magazine, free imageSynth is a terrific deal. For people not near a store that sells this magazine they can always order it directly from the publisher: 3dworldmag.com They keep extras on hand but will run out if it is a popular issue so do not wait too long.

Also, I've been going through some of the 50 animated CG shorts on the resource disc and there are lots of gems here. They were produced between 1997 and 2007. Lots of edutainment value here.

For many months almost only models and Poser-scenes, it's nice to suddenly have such an addition. Especially the movies are quite good.

Have tried ImageSynth and found it quite an odd program, maybe I'll try it again later...

I bought mine at B&N about two weeks ago. (States)
Haven't tried it out yet, but you can't beat the price!
Other assets included as well...

Gotta love 3D World magazine. The stuff on the discs is usually worth the price of the magazine. I still haven't tried ImageSynth, but it does sound great. Is there anybody here who can compare it making tiling texture with Painter or Photoshop?

All I have it say is that when I first loaded it in (man I love freebies!) and ran it, I was blown away by the sheer ability of the plugin. Just the fact that I could load in 3 or 4 different texture maps and randomly sample from each source (with percentages of probability per sample) to create a whole new seamless texture was amazing. I use it now for all of my landscaping needs, especially for the ground plane...

Well worth hunting down a copy of the mag (with cd) just to have it...
