If you are just looking to twirl the rope try this:

I started with making a simple lasso object.

7232

In Layout, I parented it to a null.

7233

I then set a key frame for the Heading of the lasso.

7234

Then I created a motion path for the null, including changing the bank angle.

7235

The result looks like this:

7236 1mb DivX

Of course, only trick performers actually swing a lasso like this. Cattle herders have the end of the rope tied to the saddle horn and hold the rope at the slip knot. They do swing the loop in a circle to get some extra speed on it, then throw the loop over the cow's head. At that point, the pull their horse to a stop, which pulls the rope tight around the cow's neck.

For that, I would suggest:

a) use hand drawn 2D animation for the rope composited into your CG animation, or
b) use multiple morphs for changing the shape of the rope.

Wow Rigel thaks a lot, it helped me :D

Well, the proyect is to make an animation of rope forming a circle and after make some swings to finally catch a thing

I think im gonna try to mix to ways, first multiple morph to animate closing lasso, second, change for freeze object swinging like u showed in the clip.

ill try this week

TY a lot

Hi again,
Here is the final result, finally i made 3 objects,

the First is a complete object to be handled by five ik goals, this act till the rope make the knot.

Seccond object is only the lasso to make the swing

tird object is the lower part of the rope,

i made changes betwen objects with object disolvence property.

TY rigel and all
