Well. I think its safe to say that this was one of the most challenging ones that we've done. :D My hats off to all the people that submitted entries. Also I'd like to say sorry to the ones that used the UV'd version that I posted. I didn't notice the errors in it until I was in the middle of texturing it myself. Oh well.. live and learn :) So without further ado .. the entries for this month.
I've allowed two votes this time around. Since that seems to be popular :D

Crook and Ethangar for me. I like Ethangar's approach by making it older and more worn and that came out quite well, and Crook's would be my outright favourite were it not for the obvious faux specular hits from the source photos used to texture it with, especially on the cheeks and similar areas, that don't match the scene lighting.
Cool stuff overall :)

I wish I had the time to participate in this one, but wow all the entrees are awesome. when I saw this model I knew it would be tough but leave it to LW users to step up to the plate and give it 110%. Well done to all. It was tough call. Ethangers becuase the worn and erroded effect looks fantastic, and syntrifid with the level of detail awsome work....
now what would be really cool is to take ethangers erroed effect and add it to syntrifid ..I would luv to see that...maybe we can get ethanger to send syntrifid his texture values to add to his..and show us a render....

Took some time to nail it down.. but I went like this.
Crook One of my votes. Well... because look at it. :) I would have liked a bit more light on it to fully appreciate the work but whats there is great looking.
CthuluSucksVoids Almost my second vote. You narrowly got beat out.. and I mean narrowly. I think that the only thing that could have been changed on it is that the gold surface is a little to diffuse or ambient. If the gold had have been a bit better.. I'd likely still be trying to decide. The rest of it is really well done!
Ethangar well... I never vote for this dick head. ;) I thought about using this for a nice SSS marble or at least a good reason to attempt it anyway. But since it didn't have any volume, its not simple to set up. So I was browsing around and kept seeing a bust of Nefertiti.

I really liked the look of it so I decided to give that a go. On mine there is a base stone layer that has its own color, spec, gloss and bump. Over that went the "plaster" layer with again all the maps. Then it was just a case of using an image that I took of really banged up old stucco wall. I took it into PS and messed with it until its basically just a black and white mess.

A little creativity using it as an alpha and bump and there you go.
Moosedog This is pretty close to what I was going for to. It came out really well but there wasn't much to make it stand out against some of the others. That is a nice marble though. Image or procedural?
Rigel I think one of the best golds of the bunch. Its the noise that killed it for me. On the top of the head dress it looks nice and smooth but as it comes down the noise makes it look really rough. I'm guessing blurred reflections?
Syntrifid Just .... wow. My second vote right there. The gold could have used some more work and is the only real let down of it. But the detail that you put in the bump and color maps swayed my second vote your way.

No, it's actually a bump map. I titled this one The Replica, and was trying to make it look like gold paint sprayed over a kind of bumpy or porous material. I.E. it's a cheap knock off.
I love the entries here. I voted for Ethanger and Syntrifid.

Voted and for me it was Syntrifid and Ethangar. I liked Syntrifid'd approach to the color and reflaection though the mapping itself weaker than Crook's. I htink the lighting in Crooks may be throwing me off. And for Ehtangar's I too really liked the old and worn approach.

Well, good luck to the other contestants! I also agree that having 2 votes is a better solution to having one vote. All solid entries this month :)

Some really tough competition in here!
Well, Eth's weathered stone captured the prize for me. I liked the different approach, and the chipped stone has a really authentic look to it. Really well done.
My second vote was a real tossup between Crook and CthuluSucksVoids.
I like the details CSVoids put into the mapping. I especially liked the scales going down the length of the snakes. But I think it was the gold that could have looked more natural.
I thought Crook's had the most genuine "Tut mask" look overall. The mapping on the face did look a bit funky under the eyes, but still capturing the overall feel of the piece swung the vote.
Moosedog and Rigel, Great looking marble and gold textures, but I think with all the detailed mapping and bumping etc. work in the before mentioned, they're the ones that grabbed my attention.
Some really fine work from everyone! Good luck, All! :)

i totally assumed that. as i told bills when i sent him my image: muchos gracias for the uv maps and all, but using them would have required some painterly skills from me. that AIN"T gonna happen:D.
i'm glad i got a marble surface close enough to right (and bill: image map, cubicly mapped), and congratulate the winners. well deserved:tu:.

Nice work everyone. Ethanger and Crook got my vote. Like many others I liked the worn look Ethanger went with.

Geeze that was a close one! Crook my man. Congrats!
Now if you would be so kind as to choose something for the next one? There is a bunch of things in the resource area that would work or if you don't see something there you can choose from elsewhere. If you are looking for idea's, drop me a pm. I have a couple. :)

That one I think will be separate. Its made in Rhino and would have to be meshed out etc.
