2nd Dec 2007, 02:08 PM
Very nice. I really like the work on the harness texturing.

2nd Dec 2007, 02:54 PM

2nd Dec 2007, 02:57 PM

2nd Dec 2007, 03:07 PM
Thanks. Yes all of it was UV'd.

2nd Dec 2007, 03:11 PM

2nd Dec 2007, 03:13 PM

Remeber this one well. Looks good in it's new home too.

2nd Dec 2007, 05:16 PM
Overall impression works really well, but the general material looks plasticy, and somehow the wear doesn't give the impression of wear or corrosion, but actually looks like it has been put there specifically. Which of course it has I know, it just lacks 'age' somehow.

2nd Dec 2007, 11:04 PM
Craig's got a good eye for this stuff as I had hardly noticed... it looks great in my opinion but I can see where Craig's going on that ;)

2nd Dec 2007, 11:12 PM
I think the textures look fine, just that some spots of rust streaks look a bit airbrushed.

Love the warning labels haha!!

2nd Dec 2007, 11:16 PM
Sweet textures.

The paint chiping perhaps needs some kind of gradient applied to make the transition from full paint to bare less abrupt. Over all though, the texturing is great. The engine heat syncs though could use some wear and tear. Compared to the rest of the ship they look new and un-worn. And I love the little messages stenciled on the chassis.

3rd Dec 2007, 07:16 AM
I had forgotten this one, so I'm glad you've reposted it.

Still love it.

Love it love it love it!!

I especially like the cockpit, you can really see all the attention to detail, with the texturing especially, I wish I was that good!!

3rd Dec 2007, 07:49 AM
Thanks everyone! This was my biggest stretch as far as textruing goes and I really learned a lot from peoples input and the experience when I was working on it. This was also my first texture job with my new Wacom, I don't know how it would have turned out without it.

3rd Dec 2007, 07:54 AM
very sweet!

3rd Dec 2007, 12:56 PM
Looks perfect!

3rd Dec 2007, 07:24 PM
Dude , , , that is hot, I totally dig the textures . . You should do a mapping tute for the resources section . . seriously.

I like this, however I can see Craigs point about the chips in the paint job, they're a bit big. The rust is nice though.

3rd Dec 2007, 07:44 PM
I hate to keep sounding like a fanboy, but FANTASTIC work on the snowspeeder Shockwave! Wow! I'll have to pick your brain someday about how you did the uv's for that. ;)

I love the model work but I do see what Craig is getting at. The eroded paint on top of the guns reveals almost a default grey surface underneath... I would be inclined to perhaps have a different spec, diff and bump map for those sections to give the impression of metal underneath because the softness of the light fall off on the grey areas kills the illusion.

4th Dec 2007, 03:55 AM
Holy Crap :) Damned Good work :)

I really like the damaged king of textures and the level of detailing .

4th Dec 2007, 08:10 AM
Thanks everyone!
I was having trouble trying to decide on what to do with the area on top of the gun's. Since it would appear to be a high traffic area and the top of a rounded surface it would be easier for the paint to get worn down as people stepped over them and dirt would have trouble settling on it as well. I also wasnt sure if I did bare metal there it would be too distracting and it being an armored vehichle of sorts wasnt sure if bare metal was the way to go like a real aircraft or to have a ceramic look to it. Looking at it now from what you are pointing out has given me some ideas where I can improve on it to help blend it better and give the area more variation to its shadeing.:tu:

4th Dec 2007, 06:11 PM
Wow. Awesome model! Love the decals too!

4th Dec 2007, 11:17 PM
Awesome work! :wtf:

5th Dec 2007, 02:40 AM
Hey nice work. I really like the humor of your warning labels. :)

5th Dec 2007, 04:15 AM
Geez, I've been out for a long time or something! That's drop dead incredible!

5th Dec 2007, 10:23 AM
Thanks. I got the idea from the small lettering on the TNG Enterprise bridge set. All the small letterg was jokes and phrases of wisdom.

5th Dec 2007, 03:03 PM
Great detail on that thing.. man, there is some really inpiring work on this forum.

5th Dec 2007, 03:15 PM
Thanks. Easily by far this is the most interactive and tightly knit 3d forum I am a part. The community here is the best.:tu:

5th Dec 2007, 03:35 PM
looks awesome, a little more work will really help when it comes to selling the vehicle as real

11th Dec 2007, 09:59 PM
Most impressive. I really like the details.

12th Dec 2007, 03:57 PM
Awesome! Still having trouble adapting them to the cold though. ;)

12th Dec 2007, 07:58 PM

13th Dec 2007, 07:41 AM
You are amazing!!!!!! Spectacular work!

13th Dec 2007, 08:14 AM
Very Nice! The force is with you...

13th Dec 2007, 07:53 PM
Very nice dude, bump for the paint chipping is way too much for reality though.

Yeah, and the underlying bare metal could use some work.

Other than that, nice work. I built the practical kit, and have always liked this bird. :)

14th Dec 2007, 05:48 AM
great model and textures. are you planning to make a render with snowy environment?

14th Dec 2007, 07:13 AM
Maybe in the future I was thinking of putting it in a Rebel base scene and tweak the textures a bit more.

14th Dec 2007, 09:52 PM
Just effing tremendous, no more need be said from me (cos I am jealous :-p )

16th Dec 2007, 03:56 AM

17th Dec 2007, 02:21 AM
really cool

23rd Dec 2007, 09:13 PM
i think it has that well used scavenged look that is typical of rebel ships in its desperate moment. very nice lokking. an awsome job.

23rd Dec 2007, 09:18 PM
Thanks! I am glad you like it.:D

oooooh! I call Shotgun! :P

I can see the ad for this in a used ships paper:

1980 rebel snow speeder, slightly worn, paint needs TLC, but flies great. Automatic transmission, power entry hatch and heated leather seats. Fitted with winter sport package including: racing stripes magnetic tow harpoon gun with 50m cable and racing harnesses.

very nicely done. I'd love to see this in an animation or a few rendered scenes :) Well done! :D

This has always been one of my favorite SW vehicles.

I know this is an old post but...
I remembered seeing this over at the Newtek forums back when I was first starting to learn LW. I saw it shortly after I posted my own version of a snowspeeder which paled quite miserabley next to this one. This looks great!
I want to take another stab at this one but it seems that good reference photos are hard to find (for me at least...)
do you know where I can find some? What did you use for reference?

13th Oct 2008, 02:45 PM
Is it safe to assume that this one and the current mesh in Resources are the same one?

13th Oct 2008, 08:06 PM
Nope, not safe. I never released it, now you must suffer for guessing wrong. Bob! Get the stick!:p

Here is a link to where I found most of my refs. It's near the bottom of the page.http://www.starshipmodeler.com/starwars/smith_sw.htm

Excellent! Thanks Shockwave...
Its probably just me, but looking at it from the front, the one in the downloads section looks to be a little too narrow.
Seems like they are supposed to be a bit wider.

I'll start posting some pics after I get a chance to start working.

Thanks again!

Woah... NICE... good work. That's one of the ships I always dug the most because there was a real sense of speed as you whip across the tundra... fast in space is much tougher to relay onscreen... but these, these and the speeder bikes, you felt you were going fast in/on.

Good model, good textures!

19th Dec 2008, 01:11 AM
perfect work

21st Dec 2008, 01:29 PM
