If you already have access to Photoshop, it would be my recommendation.

Sure, it's a hugely powerful program capable of all manner of things, but the basics are right there at your disposal and very quick to pick up. It can be lightweight if thats what youre after :)

yea... I was wondering about that... Thanks for you opinion. I was hoping more of a creator that is strictly for textures though. I have a friend that doesn't know how to use ps. Not that he can't learn it. But he is going to help me out on some projects and I need something simple for a texture creator. Been looking. But not sure what is good. Thanks for your fast response though. I just left that message.. lol

MS Paint is as lightweight as you're going to get, but the results tend to be cartoonish.

Paint Shop Pro is lighter than Photoshop, but has much of the same functionality.

There was a program mentioned in one of our threads last year which uses a node editor to create textures; couldn't wrap my head around that one.

Isn't a Node Editor something like a programming language that creates your graphic through code ?

Hey thebigrpgamer,

You might want to have a look at this one:

It's nodal. Might be the one Rigel's thinking about.

And it's free! :tu:

Or this one;

Not so free. :(

Yeah, Genetica is pretty... :)

I used to have I-Textures back in the LW 5.x days...

That and PathFinder to keep the LW project files in order...

I like Filter Forge

I like Filter Forge

Yes. So do I, but it only does limited texturing for tileable textures. IF you pln to UV Map something, I'd stick with photoshop and reference pics.

I totally forgot about Filter Forge.

Here's an interesting lightweight little photoshop-ish freebie I remember from years ago, ArtWeaver.
I was just reminded of using this five or six years ago when I recently ran into a pic I did with it way back then. Pleased to find out they're still in business:

Then of course, there's always the GIMP:

and don't forget Project Dogwaffle:

GIMP because it's free and does anything Photoshop can.

I like GIMP too, but given the choice if both are installed on a PC, I will take PS.

Probably just more familiar with it, I guess, but it just seems easier to work.
