Well here it is..........finally. This is basically a mix of stuff, ranging from work related to personal projects. It's one of those things where you just wanna keep adding stuff. Working on it inspires you to do more. The opening alien landscape shot was one I came up with while plodding away. It proved to be one of the more complex shots I have done and I have to say..............I'm pretty damn happy with how it turned out.
My thanks must go to the contributing 3D modellers. Without there outstanding work.......... would at times, leave me stranded. So again thank you. I was planning a longer tribute to them at the end. So if you have happen to notice one of your models, and were not mentioned, please email me, and I will certainly redo it to include you. I guess I will simply let you all have a look......... and I am more than happy to answer any questions you have. I have included two links. The vimeo on my page is standard res, while the Youtube is HD if you click on HD and fullscreen
Hope you enjoy it.;)

Ok, that was cool, you've got a nice reel there and it shows a lot of skills. Good stuff!

Marty, that was truly impressive. In the swinging balls sequence, I love the ripples timed to the impact; top notch stuff right there.
I love how you do the opening shot, putting the wireframe elements in, then layering in the texture then moving into the animated sequence; lovely presentation.
There are two things that I noticed as needing minor tweaks. First of all, the battle mechs. When the walk, their weight seems to remain over the centre line; it really needs to lean to the side to put the weight on the leg staying on the ground (otherwise it would fall over).
The shot near the end of the Cooper mini on the highway, something with the lighting makes the rear passenger side side tire look like it is floating off the ground.

Marty that was awesome . . .
There was a few spots in there when I remembered ILM didn't make this but it was very impressive to say the least. I loved the camera tracking there was some style in that.
The opening Max scene was great, it conveyed your tool of choice very well . .
good stuff man.

Mate thanks for all that. Im glad you liked it. Those mechs were a frickin hassle and I really dont know if I want to go back and do em again........................but I have you to thank for that.:wtf: Which means I will not be able to sleep until I get it right aahaa ! The mini tyre I noticed straight up......................I think it is a motion blur issue. That will be a 72 hours render, bugger it. Add that to my list now. The opening bit came to me one day in a flash and I thought what a cool way to start it all off. Im glad you liked it.Thanks again buddy, I do appreicate your words and advice. Cheers to you.

Sorry to keep you up tonight Marty. :)
I know making a mech walk is a nightmare, especially considering that such a machine probably would fall over it it was real!
With the mini tire; could you take it into post and correct the white colour under the tire to something dark grey or black? Turn it into a shadow?

Just wanted to let you all know how much I appreciate your comments. I am presently back into fixing up some of those anomolys mentioned. The opening with the Mech walking through an over head wire is being fixed. And I have also redone the card dance sequence revealing the wireframe program image. The wheels of the mini are being attended too. That one is a strange one indeed. Im sure it is a Vray motion blur problem, but as yet I cant seem to correct it. The two front tyres are ok and have the same settings as the back, but for some reason the back ones go all goofy. Will keep ya posted on that.

Really nice reel, Marty, I would have said so yesterday but I was having connection problems.
I spotted a couple of other points not mentioned here... In the mech sequence at the start there is a cable hanging across the street, the mech seems to walk 'through' it.
And the other one, which may be intentional, the mini sub appears to run over something, a fish maybe.
Anyway as I said, really nice reel mate.

Hey Tony :), thanks mate, much appreciated. Cable is fixed, the mini coopers wheels are rendering as I write, and yes................it was a fishie. Should have the updated version later in the week. Thanks again man.

That's absolutely incredible. I had to keep reminding myself that this wasn't a full team from somebody like ILM putting all this together. So many different subjects and environments, truly fun to watch. And I loved the Back To The Future music. :D

Marty, you are a god among men! Your sequences shame even the mighty ILM and D-Neg. Even Pixar could learn a thing or two from you.
Do I get a whole case of beer????

Yes mate she's ours. Nanook is a 4 year old Siberian Husky, and have to say, the most incredibly fun dog. Never a dull moment with her at all. The music is from Back to the Future. Good idea about the credits. Im working on one more addition of camera matched live action and 3d later next week , so I will redo the credits them. Cheers Deg.

ROFL! Lucky guess. ;)
I wanted to say thanks to all of you for your comments and support. I have re-evaluated my showreel, based on your comments and have come to the same conclusions. I was very happy with all the new stuff I had done, but alas.................not happy with the old stuff. So............... I have decided to go back to the drawing board. I am going to get rid of all the old stuff and basically bring it all up to the same standard. Some shots I will completely redo based on my skills now, while others will be replaced with WIPs I have. This is what I love about this site. You all gave me praise and very good advice. I know I can do so much better, and leaving in old clips is just not good enough, and bloody lazy on my side. The underwater sub, although dear to my heart for a lot of reasons is outdated and simply not good enough for me. That is going to be redone. Im just about to finish a big job and intend on completing a far better reel in the next month.
Again.................without your help, comments and critiques, I would not of been as motivated to do this. A big thanks to you all. So if ya liked this one................................dudes, Im definatly going to raise the bar with Phase 2. Cheers and enjoy the virtual beers.
