Sean's VF took me about an hour to render out on this machine. By contrast, Koi's Enterprise under full Monte Carlo radiosity took 4 hours...

there's a major problem with those numbers

My VF is mostly polygons.... not textures :D

I wanted to do something with a moon theme for the 40th anniversary of the landing, and I seem to be on a bit of a Gerry Anderson thing at the moment so I came up with this using Fabio's Eagle Transporter conversion and a little help from the Lightwave content CD.

Rendered in Lightwave, tiny bit of post work in Photoshop.

I think its cool but if I remember correctly the image needs credits on it before it can be submitted to the contest.

As the rules state we may enter more than one, here's my second, using the F-29 Rapier by BillS, for some reason the textures would not port to Vue so it's been partially retextured by me.

@Vergigorm. Yeah I've noticed that Vue is really picky about textures. It doesn't like it at all if they aren't UV'd and that was from back before I started to do that. :)

Here is my first entry to the monthly competition. I love the work Dennis Bailey did on not only the geometry, but the textures and lights for his Enterprise Refit. I was trying to come up with a less-frequently seen viewpoint for her, and finally came up with this view from above as she passes over the north polar cap of a superjovian planet, avoiding the worst part of its massive radiation belts. You can see an energetic auroral display on the nightside above the pole.
Rendered in Lightwave 8.5, with post in Photoshop.
Thanks!

Except for the bit of spiking of the Saturn texture on the top of the planet, that is an altogether outstanding image! Good job!

1) Create a separate surface for the top and bottom of the sphere.
2) Use a texure with UV distotion at the poles.

your display is too dark.

Gordon Robb
27th July 2009, 02:40 AM
Hmm. That's strange as, I can see there is something there, but can't make out what it is, and I have no problems seeing other images at what I think are the right brightness.

Gordon Robb
27th July 2009, 02:42 AM
Just tried tweaking my brightness as high as it would go, and changed the contrast as much as I could, and the best I could get was I can see that there are some feet. Are other people seeing this image, is my display gubbed?

Bishop
27th July 2009, 07:43 AM
Okay, last night I was looking at it with my laptop. This morning I'm looking at it with the desktop. 20,000:1 contrast ratio, calibrated to hell and gone ... I can actually see -some- details. Figure with a sword and a ponytail, a chest of some sort, some square-ish pillars or walls.

Rigel
27th July 2009, 05:44 PM
Okay; the figure is in shilouette and not entirely by design either. Although it is facing the light to the left, the surfaces on the figure just don't pick up the light (her ninja stealth trick I guess). The set itself is very squarish; it wasn't modelled to have the camera right inside of it, but to be viewed from a difference (take a look at the image on its download page).

I was aiming for a dark, torch lit tomb and on my monitor, it turned out reasonably. Not entirely the way I wanted it, but reasonable.

Bob is going to photoshop it for me to see if he can bring it out better for you guys.

While I like that one very much, really nice composition, I persanally think that there's way too much grain added.

Drop it down to about half of what it's currently set at and I think you'd be onto a winner :)

I didn't notice it on my moniter at home. I think I'll have to spend a bit of time calibrating my screen. Cheers Mighty Spud, and I agree about the the grain. The first render had way too much contrast because of the grain texture and I was losing detail. Serves me right for staying up too the wee hours in the morning.

I'll see what I can do about the alpha channel tonight and see if I can correct it. Thanks though for suggestions guys.

This is a little bit older pic, but i wanted to upload it to thank everyone for their generous givings.

I would like to thank Bob Mcain for some fabulous BG photos used in many renders besides this one:D

Credits on the pic for the meshes used but still a very public thanks to Charles Woods for the splendid Xwing, the Great Raja for a very nice R2 unit.

Thanks again to all the contributing members, Does sucking up gain extra points?;)
