View Full Version : "Idea" Challenge for August 2009

Rigel
1st August 2009, 07:54 AM
Goal:

This challenge is designed so you can be as creative as your mind and tools will take you. You will be given an "IDEA" and run with it. This idea may be just one word or a short sentence.

Example:

Say the idea is "Paris", how many things popped into your mind? Instead of limiting it to the Arch De Triumph, you have all the wonders of that city to come up with. Maybe it is a long range ore freighter named Paris heading to Mars?

Sound fun? I hope so.

Rules:

1) Models and scenes must be new for each challenge, Nothing out of your libraries please.

ADDENDUM:
Some ideas will have such a large scope to them, that models from the "Resources and PM Resources" area can be used. It will be posted at the time of the IDEA if it is permitted. BUT!!!! The main focus if the IDEA must be your own original to that Idea's challenge.

2) Must be your modeling, rendering and texturing work. (Image maps can be from any legal source)

ADDENDUM:
Some ideas will have such a large scope to them, that models from the "Resources and PM Resources" area can be used. It will be posted at the time of the IDEA if it is permitted. BUT!!!! The main focus if the IDEA must be your own original to that Idea's challenge.

3) Must be in by date specified!!! NO EXCEPTIONS

4) May use any program at your fingertips to complete project...

5) Teaming up with someone is acceptable and encouraged. Please give credit to anyone that helps with your projects.

6) Anyone may enter this set of contests, because the winner will be selected by forum poll.

Please make entries no less than XGA (1024x768)

Please post your entries as a reply to this thread.

The "idea" for August 2009 is . . .

Great, now if this thing spirals into a maelstrom of chaos it's my fault.

Updating rules...

BillS, I have been thinking about the question you posted about using the models from your own libraries for the challenge... I hope this may be a solution for it..

If the model is added to the model resource or PM resource libraries so everyone has access to them than I think it would be OK. As long as that months challenge allows the use of either resource library.

This will also add to the models we have in our resources, and help all the members and the site grow. May even boost PM membership... Wink wink

Take a deep breath, Bill. Try to relax! I know this this going to be difficult, but you can do it. Yes you can!

That's the whole thing about this type of challenge. You may interpret the word or phrase in any manner you choose.

Okay, coupla more questions, just so i'm clear...

in regards to the addendum, are resources allowed in this months?

and...

does it have to be an image? ie. can the entry be a video?

Are Resources allowed this month? Not this time.

You will see "Resources Allowed for support this month" in the starting post if it is ok...

does it have to be an image? ie. can the entry be a video?

As long as it can be viewed on a computer without to much hassle, and can be entered on the forums so people can vote on it... I am sure there are people out there like me that will find some format that would not work like smoke signals... Common sense should be your guide...

One of my EMS partners used to have a coffee mug called the barrel, it would hold 2 pots of coffee and keep it warm all day. (never got to see that last claim tested... he would have that gone before the rig check was done.)

I've got two ideas, sort of. Three, if you count a variation of one of the ideas as a whole separate one.

One is technical ... the other one (or two) sorta ... emotional-ish.

Not sure which direction to go yet. Either way, it'll all depend on the render, but the second (and third) options will take a lot less modeling, I think .... Not sure where to go on that.

I wonder why no one seems to realize that light could also mean that it doesn't weigh much.
some easy idea's:
-a villa made of poly styrene foamblocks.
-an ant or a mouse holding up a house like atlas.
-A house filled with helium, walls bulging outward and resticted to floating a couple of feet above ground by some ropes and a few pegs in the ground, waving in a soft summer breeze like a ballon.

The first one would be doable for me, mainly a matter of using the right texture, but the second and third one require someone knowing what they are doing in LW, which is hardly the case in my case :)

I think I'm done. For now. I may get uppity and do something more on it before the end of the month ... but I think I'm done.

USS SOUTH CAROLINA (CGN 37) entering the port of Charleston, SC in 1998, on her final port visit before decommissioning. I couldn't get the camera angle wide enough to include Charleston light and Morris Island light, but Ripley Shoals light is off the starboard bow. (The light reflecting off the water just to the right of the ship is from the lighthouse.) Fort Sumter is the dark block to the right of that, and the Cooper River Bridges are on the horizon in the distance. Charleston itself is visible in the lights on the horizon.

Superior can be one hell of a nasty lake.

It is an awesome lake. I have been swimming in it in September when it was perfect and I have watched it in early October rolling eight foot waves and near freezing winds.

I just watched a program on haunted lighthouses last night and I have wanted to do a Lighthouse for ages. Time is tight as always but I think I am going to make sure I find some time to do this challenge.
