View Full Version : F3D 2010 Community Calendar Challenge

Hi all,

Well, I have generously been allowed to run with this one to see how things go.

The idea is to create a 2010 Desktop Calendar made up of Images created by the community.

How to choose the twelve images to be used? Why, have a contest.

The idea/rules couldn't be simpler and are listed below :)

RULES

1) All images must use at least one item from the F3D Resources (Standard or Premiere) and this item must be the focus of the composition

2) Original models may be used as the focus of the composition, on the understanding that it be made available within the Resources section once the closing date has been reached. If the model has not been submitted by the end of the voting period, the composition will be disqualified and everyone below will move up one spot.

3) ONLY Final Compositions to be posted in this thread.

4) Final Compositions must be submitted in 3 sizes.
1600x1200 (4:3)
1600x900 (16:9)
1920x1080 (1080HD)
To ensure that the images can be used by those with high res monitors.

((Only a single image is necessary for submission to this thread, upon completion of voting, the three different versions will be requested))

5) Final Compositions must be submitted using the templates attached to this post. This is to ensure some kind of continuity throughout the calendar.

6) You may suggest where to place the 'calender' portion of the image by using the provided 'Date Grid' image.

7) All Submissions must be in by Midnight on November 30th (Midnight GMT), this will allow for two weeks voting and then two weeks of editing and collation.

8) Final Calender will be posted on the 31st December 2009

That about covers it, any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

And good luck :)

IMPORTANT
As you can see we only have 7 entries....not good enough to make a calendar.

So, with that in mind, I'm extending the deadline to December 12th. This gives another two weeks for entries to be submitted, after that will be the 2 Week voting period, after which the image will be collated and formatted correctly for the release on December 31st.

Hey i like this!:D
The lead in time is nice as it will give us time to really include all the bells and whistles in our renders. Lets see if we can knock some socks off people.;) Make it a calendar to remember.

i've got a question: if i will use one of my meshes, could i upload it in the resource section for premiere membership?

If you wish to donate a mesh to the Premiere content, send a message to bmckain first, letting him know this is what you want to do. He will then get you to upload the mesh so he can review it.

Yeah, what Rigel said. :)

If for some reason the mesh is not accepted as Premier Content, it still needs to be submitted to the standard resource section, so think very carefully about that before creating something that won't be available for general consumption.

i take it we can change text colour?
would it also be an idea to have an a4 paper size image so they can be printed?

rustythe1
1st October 2009, 02:16 PM
another one, do they need to be done all within a 3d app or free to photoshop and edit?

PolyGone
1st October 2009, 04:23 PM
Moreover, can this be a 3D/real image composite?

TheMightySpud
2nd October 2009, 02:43 AM
@ Rustythe1. The colour of the actual 'calender' portion can be changed, but the header and footer needs to stay the same as in the templates, this is to give the whole calender more continuity in it's 'feel'. And Post-processing in photoshop is fine. As for the size, it's meant to be a Desktop wallpaper calender, so I'm not sure about an A4 size image, will have a think.

@ PolyGone. As long as the main focus is a mesh from the resources (or something that will be submitted to the resources) it's a completely blank slate on what to submit. :)

:yuck:
I know.... Slap me silly
I saw that when I looked at it on my work monitor.....
Meurig and Steve pointed that out too... Embarrassed for not noticing sooner....
:o:o

Like I said in the other thread, either my eyesight is going or the contrast on my LCD is wacked. I'm going to crank up the AA and try again...

My favourite render of the year.
Unfortunately I've lost the scene file :( so can't re-render out the three image sizes. However the original render is big enough to encompass all three sizes.

Hi all,

Yes, I'm still alive, I just don't have a computer at the moment (don't ask, long story), so I'm using my phone for this posting. Great to see some stunning images. 1 month to go until voting begins. Will update the first post when I can get into uni (probably tomorrow) and use one of their pc's.

No computer? Dear God, you must be going up the wall. I don't know what I'd do if something happened to my plastic pal/link to the universe/outside world.

I kinda know what you mean. My original plan was for a 2001 image, but it didn't really come together as I imagined so I've spent a great day trying different models against the background, some worked and some didn't.This was one of the better attempts. I'll go try some more ;)
