I ran out of time and almost ran out of paper on this one. Lunchtime should be a hour!

It's a bit of a break from the norm but these are great, and front page worthy in my mind. The dragon head especially is brilliant. Are you likely to colour these at any point?
Mikala
10th January 2008, 12:52 PM
Thank you for the compliment.
Colour hmmm..I really don't know. They don't really grab me enough for colour but if someone wanted one in colour I'd see what I could do.
Well here's a 3 minute sketch. I'm posting it for others to complete and or modify as a sort of challenge. Do what you wish with it I'd like to see what others might do with it.

Just for laughs.
This was my first computer generated bit of 2d. Drawn with a mouse in MS Paint or PSP when it used to be free....on a 486 or older can't rememeber. I think back in 1996.
BillS
11th January 2008, 05:31 PM

1996? ee gads...
Was still in the IT dept at Sierra maintaining SGI workstations with Alias, Amiga Video Toasters, Macintosh workstations, Novell Servers, Windows NT servers, high end Intel and Dec Alpha PC's (for the time) with SoftImage, Lightwave, and 3D Studio apps.
I look back in wonder at how I kept my sanity. But, the following year would see some cool changes in my career direction.

Have a bit of a summer cold and had no urge to do anything but somehow this ended up on a page.
Really quick and really rough. Just pencil and erased some of the stray crap in Photoshop before posting.

He has that look... Great job.

Really digging the dragons. You really to put those in modeler or whatever one day. :)
The 'kitty' reminds me of one of our cats when she hasn't been fed for a while. :D

A dragon reminds you of that . . . how?
I'd completely forgotten that!
Mikala
28th August 2008, 04:07 PM
Well I'm just happy when people stop in and comment.
Something kept nagging me though after reading your comment. Sort of like one of those glimpses you get out the corner of your eye but can't catch in full. Then it hit me!
I get people asking me to do stuff quite often (Not you) and I lose track if I don't make a note of it some where. My apologies in advance to those I've forgotten. :(
So consider me reminded.
PS Yes strange egg I know. Here's a test for you to try out.
Rigel
29th August 2008, 05:52 AM
Thanks Greg.
My first test was okay, but it looked really flat.
I may have to try photographing a weld joint someplace.
Funny how everyone has a bump map for rivets, but noone has one for a welding seam! :)
Mikala
29th August 2008, 10:52 AM
That is odd as it was made on a 128 gray. It should stand out really quite well.

Kind of reminds me of Admiral Ackbar . . . except without the bulging eyes . . . and green and instead of dark red . . . and wearing a helmet instead of a uniform . . . But yeah, other than that, totally Ackbar :)

Hey Mikala, you definitely have a good understanding of beast/creature anatomy. Do you use references or is it all out of your head? Good stuff! I particularly like your first post of this thread! Great lines in that image!
Mikala
21st October 2008, 12:02 AM
Thanks Coffin.
What you see in thread is all out of my head.
When doing commissioned work I will use ref as the customers are usually very particular.

Found an oldie from 3d school and scanned it. Almost a decade old now.
Was so poor I had to draw on the paper for the schools book list. Nope don't miss school at all. Food is good.

24th November 2008, 12:35 PM
Nice! Now are those the Greys or the Asgaard? : )
Mikala
24th November 2008, 12:37 PM
I had watched an ep of Stargate and was doing the drawing from memory. So yes it was an Asgard just that I did not get it out of my head fast enough to get it right. I waited too many days to draw it.
Bells of Freedom
24th November 2008, 12:41 PM
That's ironic as I just started watching the whole series again and yesterday was watching some of the episodes where they first meet the Asgard. I think your drawing is quite accurate. You show a lot of the definition in the head and face that is apparent in the models on screen.
Mikala
24th November 2008, 12:43 PM
Thanks. Most of the details are a bit to exaggerated though. The mind plays tricks some times.
