Well, this could go under multiple topics, so I figured I'd put it up under the one that only VAGUELY relates to the picture...
This is pretty much the reason I haven't done any updating on my WIPS for a while, had this idea kicking around in my head (it's like a football field in there, seriously!) so figured I should get it out onto the computer. Almost said onto paper.
Anywho, total render time was 32 hours, 12 minutes, and 23 seconds. I turned on just about every bell, whistle and gadget you can think of, hence the ridiculously huge render time. I quite like it, I only have one MAJOR problem with it (that's not actually THAT major), but I'll let you all try and guess. Wouldn't want to go spoiling your fun now, would I?

Good composition . . . i do have an issue with the landscape texture, it seems a bit too flat and void of variety, I know it is hard to come up with all the elements for a good scape texture, I myself am struggling with scape textures. I know what I want i just have a hard time getting there. It would be nice to see some bump and shadows and such on that terrain but that's up to you . . .
What programs did you use to make the scene?

good scape textures require LOTS of procedural layers.. enough to make your computer cry.. heheh Managed to has out a few, certanly one of the harder challanges of landscapes... the other being the sky.

eeeeeeeeeeek!!!!?!? My goodness. What on earth caused that!? It doesn't look like its that high in the poly count. I know that terrains can cause huge jumps in poly count but that is insane. I've rendered 1.7 million polys with rad in under 13 min @ 1280x1024.

What settings are you using. That time has to be able to be trimmed down.

Indeed I agree with Bill. Even with all the "bells and whistles" used properly you should be able to get that render time way down. ;) Nice pic though :)

Haha I had Antialiasing set to Enhanced Extreme... figured I probably won't do that again, lol. :point:
Man, how'd you get it to render so fast? The model itself is about 85k, the landscape just 2.5k more, I think. I had 3 spots, with shadow maps, etc etc, plus there's SasLite in there too. I don't know how much of a difference that would make...
Yeah, the landscape was my biggest annoyance, it just looks so darn barren. Even the desert isn't that empty! :P I'm having a go at adding some stuff now to make it look fancier, removed the model and the rock and I'm just rendering out the ground with different settings. Figure I'll just try photoshop it in... :where:

nice Dreatnought but a bit more detailed background would made the picture a lot better

Dreadnought looks great.

Maybe you can throw in some large rocks or dunes?
Dunes would block some of the background so it does not seem so barren.
