Hi,
As a beginner I figured that I should try multiple modeling programs (I use mainly Blender and sometimes 3ds max), so I downloaded the trial version of Silo 2.0 (it has all the features, but with a 30 day limit). Here are some models I made. I started with something basic, I made a kunai knife and started a minigun. The models are rendered with Kerkythea.
Silo is very different from blender and max, but I find it easy to use and being able to change the subdivision levels with hotkeys is really helpful. But I don't know silo or blender well enough to really compare them and I don't know all their features, but silo seems like a really nice program.

This was a design intended as a multi role re-usable very heavy lifter to follow on from the Saturn V program but with much lower cost. Several variations, not sure how many I will produce. I like the look of the Ithacus version a lot - intended as a sub orbital military vehicle that could deliver 1200 troops in very short order, anywhere in the world.

One rather surprising feature was that they reckoned there would be huge savings from cheaper logistics by having something shorter and more squat, as opposed to a tall wobbly rocket...

Attached are a few reference images, and the first 2 (very) basic renders.

For those of you who know of slender man, I know that trying to model him is suicide. Its going to cause me to think of him and he's going to kill me. Whatev, its a risk worth taking. Anyways, for those of you who do not know of slenderman, google him, but you will regret it. This particular version of slender man is not going to be the one with a million arms. Im trying to make him more similar to the slenderman depicted in Marblehornets (A brilliant webseries btw, you should google it if you havent seen it.) This is my second character, and this is after about 2 hours of work. I still have yet to clothe him, but the body itself is pretty much complete.

Ok, so I started playing around in LightWave again after a long absence. So what did I do? I started a new Vor'cha model. Rick Sternbach made a sketch of a future Vor'cha that was never used. I started building it a while back but I never thought the design worked that well. It was basically a Vor'cha with extra pieces stuck on it. So I borrowed some of the ideas from it and came up with the idea of a "Black-Ops" refit rather than a future version. Rearmed and rebuilt with the latest engines, weapons, sensor equipment, and armored like a mo-fo. It's still very preliminary as I'm designing as I go and seeing what works and what doesn't. Most of the superstructure is temporary placeholders right now. The DS9 Vor'cha is included for comparison.

I'm posting some initial WIP progress to hopefully get some C&C on the basic form. This time I'm using a really generic base model, from the Gnomonology site to start from. I think the basic shape/proportions are correct, but I'd really like others opinions before I get too far along. I think the hands are still a bit too big, anything else?

well i only realsied a little while ago i have never had a go at a trek model! so here is a little start, its taken me quite a while to get reference together and i spent the last 2 weeks planing and refining the main spline cage, now thats all done the rest should all fall into place, i relise i have a bit of compitition on the forums with this at the mo but hopfully that will push me to do a good job as there have been some good efforts already, i managed to rip the starship simulator from the blue ray extras which i have read was the orginal cgi model supplied by ILM, the almost 360 views give good reference to textures so i hope this is where the model will not fall down.
also this is the first large model on my new machine (see specs bellow) so appologies in advance for the high poly count!

Many moons ago - actually about a decade - I sat down with a bunch of video stills from BSG and made a model of the Colonial Shuttle in Lightwave. I released it in to the wild and it can still be found eekeing out a quiet existence in distant corners of the Internets.

I've always meant to try and revisit this mesh and give it the overhaul it needed. After a number years away from modeling, I have finally managed to restore a slow pulse to my modeling mojo and make a start. This has been greatly aided by the growing body of reference work over at Resin Illuminati.

I realise that the whole design has been overhauled for the recent BSG re-interpretation, but I still have a soft spot for this boxy, greeble encrusted original.

This is my first attempt at modelling something complicated and also my first time modelling a helicopter I am suprised i have even modelled it to how it is now it is recognisable :D which i am happy but i know it needs a lot of work and probably have to scrap it since it is too messy to be a high poly model as far as i know the work flow isn't very good either unfortunately the rotors aren't realistic either but anyway that's why i'm posting this to get advice from experienced people. I have also noticed my renders look horrible compared to other designers I would appreciate a hint or two about that

Time for a new WIP thread. I´ve started working on a fresh design - the Ambassador class, designed by Andy Probert - with a mixture of elements from the Enterprise B and D.

As with most of the Trek ships, one of the real challenges is the secondary hull. I´ve made a mockup to make sure everything fits the way Andy had envisioned it.

Now on to the nacelle, the primary and at last the secondary hull (saving the hard part for the ending :) )

Modelling of the nacelle has been done this week, next step will be the primary hull.

Okay, attempting the get familiar with LW yet again....

The subject should be familiar to those remembering the late eighties. There had been rumors about the super secret Stealth Fighter, and when in 1986 Testors/Italeri released their F-19 model, there was great upheaval about how this model company got plans of the top secret project no-one else had access. I guess no-one could figure it was engineered by the model company

Anyway, once the F-117A was released, the F-19 became a footnote in the history books how wrong could predictions could go and a bone for the conspiracy theorists to fight over. Here's my take on it. It's been a while since I've done anything with contour lines (I used just to build a suitable mesh and tweak it with Subdiv tools... no chance for that anymore!)

I modelled a rough ACES ejection seat and placeholders for weapon bays to fit GBU-27 Paveway III's and GE-F404 without afterburners. I might've been a bit generous with the spacing of the equipment, but not too much. The fuselage is *much* deeper than with the models. The F-19 was supposed to have four weapon bay, but there's really no change for that, unless the other two house something man-portable. I revised the classic design a bit and used more angular wing and more facets here and there. I'm not yet sure of the tailplanes, I think they're going to be canted inwards like the models back in the day, even though Have Blue did indicate there was problems with the design. I'm definitely not going to follow Testors in modelling the canards in the front of the engine intakes,, those would be bad news for the engines and also RCS... I might add canards at the sides of the fuselage at negative V-angle (Revell's F-19 was arranged like that).

I'm planning to do the principal modeling with subdivs and then freeze and work in the details in polygon mode.

Finally the shaded views of the fuselage. Smoothing out bumps is pretty bothersome, as stealth planes should have very little irregularities in the fuselage.
