Normandy SR-2 - Leaving Orbit

I haven't posted any stuff for a while, mostly because of the new job within the Scottish Government. Below is something I've been working on, using avstral2's awesome Normandy SR-2 model.

I rendered a quick version to use on my work PC @ 1280x1024, but this one is the full 4K version that took my quad-core laptop just shy of three hours to render - the radiosity pass took about a fifth of that time alone!

Lovely piece of work!

Beautiful image, it looks fantastic.

Niiiiiiiiiicee! I was hoping someone would use that. Maybe dial the length of those volumetrics down just a bit. Other than that - very cool.

Very nice work indeed! Great lighting. I've used this model before, and it is indeed very nice. The volumetric lighting streaks fit this perfectly! Definitely worth the wait.

Thanks for the kind remarks, guys - I'll try toning down the volumetrics for the next version...

Very nice comp.

I like the exhaust effect, good work...

OK - here's the revised version. I've reduced the height of the volumetric engine flares from 400m to 150m:

Defintiely looking better! Great job.

Awesome, personal preference was your first shot, gave it better direction :)

But fantastic work mate, love it! :)

CrippledPidgeon 31st May 2015 06:31 PM

Yea, personal preference, but I liked the longer streaks. Looks faster.

I don't know how you guys do it but every month is a challenge to decide who makes the front-page. Some of you had multiple images, each of which could and should have been there. So here's a huge congrats on this being one of the images for this months change over.

Hi,

Just thought I'd post a new image - this was rendered for a Mass Effect-obsessed friend of mine. This is the 4K version, and I'll be re-rendering this at 8K in the near future:

Nice job, I remember the original from two years ago, are you still using the same system?

Harbinger 27th Feb 2017 01:26 AM

Same system... The only thing that's been changed is the two GTX 670s had been swapped for a single GTX 1070.

Will re-do the composition by changing the galaxy wallpaper, but apart from that I was quite pleased with the illumination.

overseer 27th Feb 2017 04:22 PM

Very nice work! Nice, clear and great use of color and lighting. I really like the metallic shine.

that is 3840x2160 though, not 4K which is 4096x2304

too small for people with a 4K(or 5K-5120x2880) imac for example

Harbinger 18th Mar 2017 12:43 PM

Fair enough... If you want a true 4K (or a 5K for that matter), I'd be happy to re-render that for you.

I dont realy know the Game, but you have made some great Renders with this Beuty-Model!:tu:

This is an image I created to accompany a piece of fan fiction I wrote entitled Mass Effect: Legacy. This image took over 12 hours to render!
