Talking Star Trek - Return of the Dead, USS Onimaru The Final Build V.7

Yes, more trek crap. This is one that has haunted me for 3+ years now I think. maybe more. It is second to the KSS. This is my last go with this design. So, here is to finishing it.

As for how often I can update I am unsure. I took the night off and spent a few hours pushing verts as early celebration of clearing out over 30 boxes of crap. Most dating from 2003 or earlier

I really love this design... looks like you're trying something pretty interesting with the saucer section... the new saucer you've looks similar to something I was going to try with a ship that's been floating in my head for about 15 years which has some transparent dome type things over an arboretum that you could see through the top

I think you're design looks like it has influences from the Galaxy, Ambassador and Sovereign.

Great to see this one back, as always!

Does that mean we´re only about twenty more revisions away from the final version?

Exclamation

Ok had a few hours to do some 3d, and finally have the pc sorta set up to really work on things.
Mostly just pushed things around nudged some subdivs about. Loosing some of the height to get rid of some awkward angles and to give a more sleek appearance that falls better inline with the bridge gap design that it is. As some who have watched this design evolve will notice I have returned to a single neck/secondary hull object. This being another reason some hings changed, mostly the neck form. I prefer the flowing edges since a harsh transition did not exist on the Galaxy.

I know some will cringe at this new development, I have considered scrapping everything but the new saucer idea and building off that with a Sov era design mentality. With a possible change in ship girth so it better fits into it's own class

Either way here are the renders at various angles to give everyone an idea of what has changed.

Based on those images, you've achieved a symmetry and balance which makes it look good from pretty much any angle. The "arrow head" bridge platform makes it look like it's going warp speed while standing still.

That or it shows the security grunts which way to bow!

I like the new start. I assume the shuttle landing platform will remain on the saucer? That's my favorite.

I have to agree with someone else, the pointed bridge really adds to the design. As always, liking what I see.

The dart shape is part of the C/D decks. Early work on the bridge decks. Not sure if I will will use this set up or not. The little person is a example of the room available the area will be a mess of split levels so I gain some room there but the tightness is pushing it.

Exclamation what is that 4 in a row? lol

More details, ignore the materials. Somewhere I applied the wrong ones. I probably should get to unpacking instead of pushing these polies around.

Dude. That really rocks, but's it's going to take you forever to get a matching level of detail throughout... I'll be watching though.

Bridge area is getting more "detail" as well as other locations so that close ups can be done. I will probably keep a fairly high detail all over but small crap like text decals probably wont carry all over. Most likely I will greek those parts.

Plans are to detail out the bridge, dock bay (area behind the lounge) Upper and lower docking ports (neck, E deck, saucer, and belly), Shuttle bay A, Cargo bays (warp cut out), and a few key window areas IE equivalent to 10fwd etc.

It looks nice.

Why unpack? The less you do of that now, the less packing you need to do next time you move.

Ok, I grafted on a few more things, the trim rings for the docking ports and the DS9 elevator decals. I do not think anything else can be carried over from the old mesh. Unless it is some stuck on detail.

Not sure if it is visible but as I build down on these decks I am welding and chamfering the things. No more objects stacked on. I will probably stop doing this once I get down another deck or so since those areas will not be intended as close up areas.

More random upper deck crap, and rough blocking in of the shuttle bay. Only saucer parts that are still sub-d is the cliff decks and the saucer itself. IE the shuttle deck and up are frozen and final rough shapes.

I think I still have some vert pushing to do on the "cliff" part of the mesh so that it tapers nicely and then I need to sharpen the rounded parts of it such as the edge and the area where it joins up with the saucer. The shuttle bay us huge since it will carry a large compliment of craft as well as be designed to accommodate smaller ships beyond the Danube's dimensions. More details are contained in older posts regarding this design. Only changes will be heavier armament and a lack of gimmicks such as saucer sep drop off multi vector this or that etc. If any aux craft are needed for a defensive stance in a "fighter" roll the compliment of shuttles can be used in those situations. (she will carry a squad of defense craft (small attack fighters) if I model these or not is still up in the air. ::read don't hold your breath)

Ok, not sure if I will go blue or yellow or some other colour for the field thing or if I will just put nothing with a door style on the shuttle bay. But that is it for the night.

to be honest I liked it way better with the longer neck, but that's probably just personal preference I love the details, can't wait to see more

Not much visually but the shuttle deck is rounded into the upper and the top side saucer up is all collapsed and cleaned up.

Just a few min today, renders took longer than the work. Again I am pushing around polys. Small refinements on the secondary and looking for a shape for the nacelles. Not sure yet what style or look I will go after.

Last image are samples of nacelles. I am thinking of the lower left with the rounded rear end of the top example.

Is it just an accident that the arrangement of the hangar doors almost perfectly match the shape and relative size/spacing of a Constitution-class starship's impulse engine vents?
