Great job, the subtle atmo on the edges looks really, really nice. Can you talk at all about what tweaks you made? No biggie if you can't but I'd be curious. Hope you feel better!

Biggest change is all the landmasses have their accurate coastlines put in, no other map available has that. Also I colored the ocean correctly and shaded it properly and accurately.

Yeah, the ocean colour was the bit I liked least about the earth I released here...

sorry abut the flu and yes, it does suck, that's why I got my flu shot this year. I will hold out for the finished model and gladly pay 75 for it although I don't see how it can look better than this does.

Very, very nice work. You'll have to tell us sometime how you manage to paint the image so well as a map. But that's coming from someone with very little photoshop experience, i'm sure it's probably easy - but time consuming - to do.

Technically you don't paint the entire map. It's much like making standard maps, you take photographs and tweak, alter, add, mask, layer and color then paint in what it's missing or could use/need. Same thing applies for Earth maps. This one's got around 60hrs of work put into it.

Alright, after looking over the scene files and maps I'm calling this one complete and ready for sale. For those of you that are/have been interested in purchasing this Earth, PM me and we'll work out the details from there.

The full scene, maps and all put into a rar are roughly 80mb.

That is a pretty sweet Earth. I'm working on a V3 of mine. What version of MAX is this in? I was thinking about buying a copy to have a look, but I'm still on MAX 2009.

I would personally thank all of you that have offered any and all help to this project, you've helped make it very successful. 9 copies have been sold thus far and each cent received is going to help with future projects Buying planetary datasets (raw) isnt cheap and each sale makes sure I can get more!

Good news indeed!

If you are looking for suggestions on what might be good next...

I've often thought it a shame that there's not a better map for Saturn out there... There's great fine detail ring maps, bot not really a planet map that's good enough to go with them. (I've also struggled with accurate backlit views of the rings).

Mars has some reasonably good stuff, but it's inconsistent. There's the really good 16 bit hieght data from MOLA, but the colour maps seem a bit messy, and I have often gone back to Viking orbiter era.

In case anyone is not aware of it, there's some very good stuff on Bjorn Jonsson's pages:

I found a 4k map based on a smaller one of Bjorn's on the Celectia Motherlode, looking forward to trying that.

For those unfamilar, Celestia motherlode has loads of add on maps forthe Celestia program, which can also prove handy for other stuff.
http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/

Sometimes they put appearance over accuracy, but still a very fine resource.

Funny thing about saturn is it's very bland. Making a high res map would be little more than adding swirls and such. As for the rings... gah, I have a HUGE rings texture sitting around here somewhere...

*nod* oddly enough a good 80% of my buyers have been LW users simply wanting the maps. However even though that's the facts, I still supply broken down screenshots of the materials and their settings so that the shaders can be setup in other apps since the process is pretty much the same in most 3d programs.

your maps so far look like perfect match of the ones from bluemarble. Sorry, but no way you "painted those" yourself.

al3d, you were told to stay out of my threads as all you do is cause problems. Follow the rules. Also note I never said I made them from scratch. Using exisiting datasets, but heavily modified ones. Do you want a side by side, you prat?

FYI: it takes a LOT longer to paint in coastlines than 15mins on a map of this size.

Here's a side by side showing the same regions of the map, first one's mine and second is standard blue marble. This is the closest looking region to the blue marble map I could find on mine and it STILL looks heavily modified. Don't make claims that are so easily discreditable, Alain. Your attempts to hurt me, my business and my artwork never do anything but fail.

INFACT furthermore, if you were smart, you'd look back at the last render and notice that the cloud map there has a hurricane. There has never once been a blue marble map released that featured cyclonic storms like that. ALSO furthermore again, look at the image posted BEFORE the last set, look at the coastlines, ALSO very different as blue marble has no blue coastlines what so ever. That image however did use blue marble clouds as mine were still being made but the version that's been released to my buyers uses my clouds map.

Thank you, but leave your pathetic attempts out of my threads.

Buisness?..LOL..please. you've never finished anyting in your life. So stop saying this tuff takes hrs..not my fault if you don't KNOW how ti do it fast enought.ANy idiot with photoshop can do a "coast line" in 15 minutes...all the maps have the proper mask for that....seriously!... But don't try to fool the members in saying you've worked on these countless hrs. I will stay away from your threads...but i see total BS like this and the SELLING IT?...it needs to be called on. I can not hurt your fantasy buisness..since it does not exsit, i can not hurt your artwork, you never make any..as to hurt you...that's your style..not mine.

Seriously folks!...you're buying his BS like it's a Donut!....

As for selling this!..LOL...don't bother, i'll make the same shit and put it up for free, in LW' Maya and i'll get others to convert to C4D and Max..
