Welcome! Always good to see people from other software. I come from Lightwave and am learning Maya (and eventually XSI).

There's nothing about animating a metal chain? I really need to be able to do this. Move one link and have it draging all the others.

Yeah, there's at least one that will help you with that. I can't remember what it's called, but William's videos are where I learned to do it. Hit Cntrl F and search the page for "link" or "metal link."
If you're in Layout, select an object and hit "m" for motion options. Under the Modifiers drop down there should be a modifier that says FX_Link. I believe that's the one you want.

No matter what I do, I can't get the chain to work. The links eather don't move, get's distorted, or pops out of the chain. I'm trying to use a multiple of a single link to make the chain as long as I want it to be.

Have you looked at his video on animating tank treads? That may be more applicable to your project.

Look for "Introduction to Serpent" or "Introduction to Lead the Follower Motion Modifier" under the Animation section. That should help.

The particle rain was a great help, but I'm still trying to get the surfacing of the particles right.

I think We Need more in the Area of Particle FX and Particle Dynamics..

Example: Making a FlameThrower effects..
Example: Making Explosions, like big ones...
Example: Making Smoke....
Example: Making Fire...

Lw 9 and up
Lots of stuff is new as far as the tools now and I am having problems getting good looking Flan\mes and explosions in LW..

I really do not want to buy a 3rd party plugin when I know LW 9.xxx can do it...

Needs some good tutorials on these examples...Any ways I wish there were some good tutorials to look at and get started...

A few years ago it would take along time to render out HV's, and now that we have some real HORSE POWER to render these HV's, I would like to get back into getting some good results....

If, WilliamVaughan, or some else that has the Expertise to do some Tutorials that would be Aweome

I agree 1,000,000% The only tuts I've been able to find are YEARS old, and provide mediocre results. I've tried experimenting, but it always comes out crap. I wish someone with the knowledge would share this in a way that would be easily adaptable to many situations. I know it's probably asking for a lot, but it would save me (and I'm sure many others) time and money.
