Any progress on the V2009 mothership & shuttles models? I'd attempt to build them myself but I'm only just starting out with 3D modelling...

I don't think anyone was actually building the models; they were just posting references for anyone who might like to.

There's no better way to learn how to model than to pick a subject, start a w.i.p. and start posting images of your attempts. That way, the many talented pros and hobbyists around here can guide you and help you improve your skills.

Also, try one of the tutorials on our site.
