Default Star Trek - Beating a dead Charleston

Because I can't seem to lay off of this particular model...I started to retexture the Charleston, which turned into remodeling the entire engineering hull. It's a nice little hobby project that I can doodle with and learn some new techniques.

Still to come...hangar deck, window boxes, more lights, more texture tweaking, etc.

Welcome back!
You know the Charleston is one of my favs non-canon ships from all the times. She´s still in great shape.

I think the poor girl needs some more detailing now. That close up shot showed too much texture and not enough detail i'm afraid She's a beautiful ship, can't wait to see what do you with her.

Yeah, she's kind of a tired old girl, but she gets the job done.

Here's a little bit of texture work outside the shuttle bay.

Tweaking textures, identifying problems. I'm not overly happy with the weathering on the left side of the engineering hull, but I'll let it sit for a while.

Nice work, been so long since we've seen anything from you. Good to see something again.

Thanks! Sooner or later I'll post something that's actually brand new.

I've been doing a little render testing. I've still got a fair list of things to do/fix on the ship.

I think the shield grid lines should be modelled onto the nacelles at this point. Something about them as they stand seems wrong, like they've been painted with camoflage or something.

I don't think I want to do shield grids on the engines, but I do think they need some raised panels, similar to the rest of the hull. Also, there are some polys on the engines that refuse to render properly, so I may as well use that as an excuse to re-model the things.

Oh they're coming along. I've been dividing time between this and some woodcarvings.

I haven't forgotten this thing, I just work in small increments

I remodeled the warp engine; the shape isn't exactly the same, but I like it much better.
I also started roughing in the major panels on the engine.

I may re-do those RCS thrusters, too; I'm not really digging them right now.

This has never been my favorite trek design, but I must admit it's growing on me. The new warp nacelles look better IMHO.

The new naceles looks good Joe, but appears that you need to work a little more smoothing the back side (the white "body"). Maybe adding more pollys or moving a few verts?

Thanks!

Yeah, it was supposed to just be a re-texturing and it keeps snowballing.

I think the new nacelle has a much better defined shape to it.

Major panels are in place on the top of the engine.
