Default Star Trek - Presidential Starship

Hey Everyone,

Started work on a ship from the Start Trek Universe today. The design is based off an original concept for the Defiant from the Art of Star Trek. I love the design but though it was more suited to the role of a science vessel or a small scout. I then thought it would be great if it was a ship for the official use of the president and council of the Federation.

First thing I need help on is the name. I prefer the name Federation One but as the military wing of the Federation then maybe I should go with Star Fleet One (like Air Force One). Which one do you guys think?

So far I've spent just over an hour working out the overall shape and proportions. I'm not following the original design to the letter and will be taking several liberties with the details. I see this ship being in service around the the time of the Enterprise C and would only ever operate deep in Federation space. Here's the first renders along with the original concept art.

Cheers

Hal

The blocking looks good.

One difference I see is in the pylons where they attach to the nacelles. Yours go under the nacelle whereas in the painting they attach to the side.

The nacelles aren't complete yet. There is a lower, narrower part to them which I haven't modeled yet.

Thanks Lonewriter

Decided to do a little bit of work on the impulse engines. At the moment I'm picturing two of these set into the housing on the top at the back, though they might work one either side at the back of the saucer. Anyway here is were I am after about 30 min work, not much but should give an idea.

Cheers

@hal - this is really looking like a fun project and loving the progress thus far, but your comment son your impulse engine designs made me wonder. Couldn't there be impulse engines on the main body as well as the saucer? After all its a presidential vessel, and surely if there had to be an emergency separation, having a full set of backup impulse engines couldn't hurt. Just a random thought.

Looking forward to the next batch of updates!
