Default Aircraft - Orion's Game

Just finished this one.

A P-3C catching a Juliet class on the surface as it attemps to shadow a US carrier group. This was a commission for the VP-45 Association

Oil on canvas
36" x 18"
Orion's Game

As with my last few paintings the scene was first created in Lightwave with the render becoming the main reference for the painting

C&C always welcome

Pete

Love it and didn't know that the P-3 could carry ASROC's though it makes sense

P3's never carried ASROCs (Anti-Submarine Rockets). Those were for skimmers only. What you're seeing on the wing pylons are Harpoon anti-ship missiles.

As for the painting, it looks pretty good, except for the engine nacelles. They're too pristine. P3's usually sport a heavy line of exhaust residue on them. These planes took an unbelievable amount of abuse on patrol and had a lot of grime and soot to show for it. The pilots flew 'em like bush pilots --low and slow, as they laid Bear Traps. Been there and done that --great times!

Now, now, there is no such thing as necro-posting on F3D. Appreciating a piece of artwork is never outdated.

Cheer guys for the kind words, I'd forgotten about this post myself.

In a terrific postscript the painting is now with the VP-45 Association and has been accepted as a donation for display at the National Naval Aviation Museum, Pensacola. Needless to say I'm very proud of this.

Well, when a post in on my list of unread every morning I look at them. Noticed I had never replied and decided, late is better than never. I think a good example of why we don't close threads, the TO wasn't disappointed.

Congratulations on having the painting sit in a well deserved spot.
