Yeh it does look like they've dredged up a lot of that old concept stuff.

It's not just the planet, it's the ship, too. The "bridge" area is remarkably similar to some of the original concepts for the interior of the Nostromo that they just couldn't do at the time because of budget and technology restraints (mainly the big front windows). The more I see of that stuff, the more obvious it is that Ridley is going back and using designs that he probably wishes he could have used back in '78.
I need to go find some of the old art for the Nostromo itself (or rather, the Snark). I have a feeling there's a few design elements there that are now part of Prometheus. |

For one, there was a shot of a different angle of the top of the temple. Suffice to say this is definitely based on some old Giger art.
Second, we have good news from Fox regarding the rating (which hasn't been submitted to MPAA yet, so hold your horses). Fox CEO Tom Rothman says "Not one frame will be cut" to get a rating. Whatever the MPAA comes back with, that'll be it. If it's rated R, then it's rated R. While I don't think films should ever push to get a higher rating, I also don't believe in dumbing them down to get a lower one. The AvP films (both of them) are examples of the two extremes, and how neither one works. I'm more interested in preserving the filmmaker's intention, and it looks like Fox is going to let Ridley release the film exactly as he made it, no matter what the MPAA comes back with. |

I'm old enough that I don't care what rating gets slapped on a movie.
I do care that the film will be the way Mr. Scott wants it. |

Holy crap! That looks amazing. At this point they could just have the actors wander around and say nothing at all and I'd pay money to see this. Some really freaky stuff in there, nice little hints of what's to come. Vickers is going to turn out to be something very weird...

Prometheus was confirmed as having an R rating in the States today, which is.... risky.
Generally an R rating is considered commercial suicide because the American rating system has a very immature approach to adult film classification. Maybe they're banking on the hype being so good that it bucks the trend? It's an odd choice on the studio's part anyway. No word on what it's rating will be in the UK yet, but I'm guessing it'll get a 15. |

When I was a teenager back in the 80s, you either snuck into an R rated movie, or you just went up to the box office that was usually manned by a teenager working at the theater who didn't care. Later, when I was past the age of 17, that's when they started asking for ID ironically. As time went on, they started clamping down on theaters that let teenagers into R rated movies. They actually had stings where the police would hire teenagers try to buy tickets and would lay stiff fines on the theater owners if they didn't check IDs. Now, I can understand this for cigarettes or alcohol, but MOVIES? ![]() When the suits in Hollywood realized what was happening, and started seeing movie revenues go down, that's when the trend of dumping down movies to teenagers got into full swing. I think it reached it pinnacle of stupidity in the late 90s and early 2000s. There was a few years of a slew of horror movies that all had PG-13 ratings. I was a big horror fan when I was younger and my feeling was "a PG-13 horror movie? What the hell is the point?" Sadly, although not quite as bad in some ways, the trend continues. I think its really idiotic that they would let you show people being murdered and killed in very violent ways and most people here in the US would not have a problem with it, but Janet Jackson accidentally shows a boob for half a second and suddenly the sky is falling! I think they are doing this for Ridley Scott because over the years, he's made some really impressive movies, many of which have made big money. He's also made some duds but nobody is perfect. Allowing Scott to make the movie he wants is rare in Hollywood these days. I'm certainly going to enjoy it. ![]() |

I certainly hope they don't do anything to the cut to make it a 12A or anything like that. Although I have heard (probably in this thread) that they won't.
Got my copy of Alien Anthology on Bluray in the post today. Looking forward to hidef Alien and Aliens before Prometheus. ![]() |

have to say, although aliens was only filmed in the smaller ratio not 2.35, i was supprised at how good it cleaned up for blue ray, fox have been releasing quite a few good clean ups, if you have not already the thing is another good one.
menus etc are all lifted direct from the dvd though on the alien anthology, trailers for promethus have started on uk tv though, even more snipits amongst them as they needed daytime trailers to be a little different. |

I have both Alien and Aliens on Blue Ray. I bought them as singles instead of the box set for I refuse to pay any money for the other two movies. They do not exist in my universe. During the director commentary for Aliens, James Cameron talked a little bit about everybody getting killed off in the third movie. Although he was very polite about it, you could tell he was pissed! So was I.
![]() There was a great cartoon in Star Log magazine at the time. It had a bunch of characters having a meeting at the 20th Century Fox Department of Bad Ideas. One of them says... "I know! How about in the 3rd movie, we kill everybody off?" ![]() "That's a great bad idea!" ![]() I agree, the blue ray for Alien came out very well. I just bought a 55 inch TV in December and when I watched Alien on that, and it was amazing! When my friends and I go see Prometheus, we're going to have a get together before hand at my place to watch Alien again, or at least the parts with the Space Jockey. You're all invited of course, but how you're going to get to New England, I have no idea. ![]() One thing that was interesting is I had always thought the company name, Weyland-Yutani, was made up by James Cameron for the second movie. But when I watched Alien on Blue Ray with the big TV, there the company name was on one of the computer screens just as the ship was waking up in the beginning! On the high def image, it was clear as could be! ![]() Cheers! |

I didn't mind the killing off in 3, it kind of worked with the depressing nature of the movie, to further isolate Ripley. I liked the idea that all the heroics were for nothing in the end. The company always wins. The aliens can't be defended against. However, the film itself was utter, utter rubbish. I didn't think it possible, but 4 was even worse
