Do you mean, how to put more than one texture layer on a surface or how to use the various settings to blend them together?

Actually both...
I think I remember a video, where they explained how to use image maps and layers that effect each other in masking out differant things... Been try to create a texture where I have differant images and I want to use images to mask out differant parts like using the alpha maps to cut out differant parts of the images.. does that make any sense.. been bugging me trying it the nodal way, using the old layer method then appling them to the nodal way.... thanks Mike |

I don't know how to make that effect using nodes in LW. Doing it the old way with layers in the surface editor is pretty simple. Biggest thing to remember is to change the layer type to alpha and that the alpha layer ONLY effects the layer under it. It won't go further down the chain than one layer. So for example.
If you have a blue, red and green image. Put green on the bottom... like undercoat if you were painting a car. Blue as the paint colour on top of it. An alpha to cut out some of the blue so that the green shows. Red layer like clear coat. Alpha over it to cut out so that the blue shows. so the layers would actually order like this. alpha Red image alpha Blue image Green Image. To get really freaky you can use alphas on alphas etc... that is where VPR is your friend. |

Also, don't forget you can further fine tune the effect by changing the percentage for layer opacity on each layer (i.e. instead of an alpha being applied at 100%, set it to 20% and it only cuts through by 20%) and by changing the blending mode on layers that aren't alpha maps.
I haven't played with nodes much but it should be possible in there. |

oh forgot about Alphas..
doing it using the Surface Editor old method .. Then doing it with Nodal... Thanks for the tips amazing how many ways you can do things, and then stare at it, going how they do that again.. old age i guess.. or just lots of new methods using nodal.. ing ![]() |
