So, with all the Overtime I'll be acruing in the next couple of months, I'm going to get me a Laptop, and a wood lathe.
I will not be upgrading to LW9.x . I can't stand the idea of using Vista, and XP 64 will not likely come with the Laptop. Besides, I have invested a bit in LW 8 specific stuff on the Athlon, and feel it more cost effective to continue that route for now. With that said, I am curious if LWCAD needs to be a specific version to work with LW8.3/8.5? Also, I would like to get VUE at some point and just noticed an ad for version 7 today. Will that work with Version 8.x ? Any insights and suggestions are welcome. ![]() |

Wow, a wood lathe; Fran would approve of that.
Of course I'll approve of the laptop. Congrats Jack! |

Well I can't spend all the money I don't have on medical stuff...
![]() Re: the wood lathe, it's just a small one. I think it can handle a maximum length piece of wood of about 3 feet (if that). Could have used it before now, but the router was more important. As for the Laptop, I'll probably try to squeeze in a dedicated LCD monitor for it when at home, already have a thumb-trackball mouse and USB keyboard so... This is going to be for writing projects, even though it's specs knock the socks off my Athlon... ![]() |

LWCAD doesn't seem to be bothered by the version. I've seen it working on v7 up. Works fine on 9.5 here.
Vue standalone would work fine but xstream might not work as expected with pre 9. Nope just checked and it requires 9.3 + for xstream plugin to work. |

Just wondering what is specific to LW8 there Jack? I use a lowly 1.6Ghz laptop running XP pro SP2 and have to say, LW9.X is vastly superior to LW8 on it, my LWCAD runs fine, as do all my other plugins and it comes with more functionality than LW8. I can still use the "old" FBX plugins for it too. I'm just thinking, unless there is a very specific plugin that 'breaks' under LW9.X I wouldn't dream of going back to LW8.5 myself. Just curious. |
