Thanks again you guys for keeping me company throughout the semester. I really appreciate your interest, encouragement and insights. That's one thing about online
classes, they are very isolating for the student, so it's nice to be able to reach out
and receive feedback from people who's opinions I respect.

Oh, you guys might like to follow along with me during Fall semester too - I'm taking Advanced Texturing and Lighting in Maya and a MEL/Python scripting class that I'm SUPER DUPER excited about, because I don't know snot about programming except for doing macros and simple stuff from the script editor in Maya, so that one should be a real good class!

WOW. Just...WOW.
I was looking online for info about Academy of Art's online courses and found this forum and your ridiculously amazing art work!!! :O Gobsmacked...
I'm starting the online courses in Fall 2011 and was going to try to waive the FND110 with some still lifes etc, but looking at your work has made me want to do the class to go back to basics and really learn to see.
How were the online classes for you? (Well clearly you excelled in them! But were they educational?)
I was wondering how the life drawing FND112 works, as obviously you're not in a room with a live model online... do they send you photos to work from?

Really, really awesome work Woody - just been checking out your website as well... phenomenal skills!

Hi Brooke, thank you for your compliments, and welcome to Foundation3D.
You'll find our community is a lot of fun, with friendly folks that are genuinely
interested in helping themselves and others to improve artistically.

Congratulations on starting at AAU in the Fall Semester. You will no doubt find
the experience very rewarding. If you've never been involved in an online
education setting before though, I'll say beware. It takes a great deal of maturity
and dedication to do well in online courses, and you are expected to strive for
professional level work immediately, which can be frustrating for a lot of students.

I would not suggest trying to test out of FND110. It's a great primer course in all the
things you thought you figured out when you were a little kid. It was actually one
of my favorite classes that I ever took at the Academy! If you are online, you can
sign up for your own classes through Student Self Service. I would strongly suggest
that you seek out Thomas Marsh for your professor. He teaches several courses
at AAU, and FND110 is one of them.

The classes are very educational, but the real treat is in having a focused curriculum.
I think many artists without a commission tend to stagnate in their development, and
classes such as these help to keep you sharp and learning new things.

The life drawing class is not life drawing. The program features photographs of live
models and you are expected to draw from them for reference. Sometimes time limits
are imposed, sometimes not. Ultimately, the work is up to the student, you get out of it
what you put into it and all that... but I will say, don't do the crime if you can't do the time.
Some of the drawing assignments that I turned in had upward of 20-30 hours in them.
This makes it difficult to take a drawing class along with any other art courses and still
find time during the week, so I would suggest knocking out some of the Liberal Arts (LA)
requirements in conjunction with any art classes, because they aren't as greedy of your time.

Thanks again for your warm compliments, and best of luck to you Brooke. I hope that
you will consider posting your work here for the membership to enjoy and comment on.
Have a great Fall Semester, and best of luck to you!

My biggest problem is staying focused on a particular project. I think my brain still has a lot of nomadic DNA strands in it plus an injury that keeps me from sitting or standing to long...

Brooke, Welcome to F3D, there are a lot of people I consider friends here.

Woody, You are a very well rounded and skillful artist. It is always a pleasure to see any of your postings on whatever subject you're doing at the time. I would say Congrats on the A's, but they should have something above that for your work..

Hey guys,

Thanks for your reply Woody! I've decided against waiving out of the foundation classes, as what i've seen and heard from so many people is that they really are very beneficial. So i'm starting FND110 Fall 2011 Very much looking forward to it!

I wish I could afford to do a full degree, but at the moment i'm only doing 5 classes, leading up to the creature construction/anatomy class which is the one I really wanted to do. After FND110 and FND112, i'm doing Introduction to Anatomy, followed by Animal Drawing & Anatomy, finishing with the Creature Anatomy one. Exactly what I want to focus on in my work It would be amazing to be able to do some of the other classes as well though, they look brilliant. Maybe I will chip away at the degree over a lonnnng period of time. I'm also going to be working 4 days a week to pay for the 5 classes, so I hope i'll have enough time to do all the work - i'm only doing 1 class per semester so hopefully will be ok.

Best of luck to you Brooke, and we'd love to see your work here at Foundation3D! I'm glad to see that you've decided to take the Foundations courses, they are definitely worth taking, but the number one thing to always bear in mind about education is that you get out of it, what you put into it - I'm sure that you'll do well.
