Not sure what it is... but something in the scene looks a bit "off". I think it's the fact that the building in the background is displaying a distince shadow and shaded side facing the camera, and the bulldozer does not. So it kind of throws it off. That and the specular shine on the camera facing side of the shovel pistons is would be less intense for that given scene.

Yup, it's a consequence of lighting it with the HDRI (light coming from the back) and putting a light on the front to show the front better. Back to the drawing board.

OK, been messing with the dirt node all night and now going to give up. It plane doesn't work as expected. Got close to what I was looking for.

Time to move on.

The worn away paint and scratch work is great. The rest, I agree does not work at all. It makes the object almost look as if it was done in colored pastels in most places. Even dulled weather beaten paint is shiny in some areas especially where it is wet with old fluid streaks and those fluid runs also collect grime that are not uniform.

As it is an common object the human brain has clues to compare to that tells it if it look right or not.

Like it but I agree with the previous comments. Still, it's pretty good work.

Yeh, I got so far away from my original vision for this texture (due to wrangling with the dirt node). I'll start from scratch at some point. Think my objective (completely procedural texture) isn't going to work for this geometry. If I'm going to get around to surfacing this properly, I'll need to uv it at some piont. To much else to do
