Was thinking 3-4 different beans sculpted in ZBrush. Low-ish poy versions, with medium details as displacement maps, and higher res details as normal maps. The use these beans and particles to fill a cup to overflowing. Also just remembered that I wanted to finish off my big sci fi door.

Octane standalone doesn't support displacements, but the LW plugin does.

That sounds very cool… looking forward to seeing that, I remember seeing a photography some time ago where the coffee cup was actually made up of coffee beans …looked really good, possible some thing I may have a go at as a future 3D project…

Good to see that the LW plug-in supports displacement!!

Best you finish them modelling projects so you can get on with some real work

Been working at converting the Bellflower's textures to Octane ones. Here are some test images,

and an animation. Best viewed in 1080P

Best thing about this animation was the 40-50 second per frame render times. Not bad for 1080p

It seems over bright, but it looks good overall.

Cheers, yes, I'm using Octanes Daylight Environment, which is a bit bright and also messing with various colours pace settings. It will be alright once I'm using an HDR environment.

Ok, finished up the last bit this evening. The VTOL engines. Not that happy with the cowl, but I've asked a question on the support forum about faking gradients, as they're not supported yet. Some shots of it, with an HDR background.

So here she is, pretty much finished. Problem I have now is that it's on the very limit of what my 2GB graphics card will render. Need to do some optimisation of the textures I think, so that I can render the whole thing with an HDR background. then I'll try a composite shot.

Couple of beauty shots.

Messed with the cowl a bit more. Still not sure, but I prefer this.

I do, I love this ship. I'd love to see a render with her and Serenity together. Nice job.

It looks better. I just think it's too shiny compared to the rest of the engine.

Thanks. I know what you mean. my problem is that I think it should be shiney, but too shiny spoils it. I'm struggling with finding a look which is not too shiny, while not looking plasticy.

Why thank you sir. Octane is a fantastic programme. It's got a few limitations in the texturing system I'm discovering (no gradient and limited procedurals), but they are coming. It is a lot easier to get realistic looking surfaces and lighting, and blisteringly fast (with a good card). It has sucked me in though, hence the purchase of a 6GB Titan

Do you think Newtek have an OpenCl version VPR in the works? There are rumours that AMD are going to release a new gfx card very soon. Announcements supposed to be next week. The rumour is that the card will have 6gb of ram and be 30% performance increase on the 7970 Ghz.

I'd get the new card if I knew for certain that Newtek were going to support OpenCl explicitly. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate CUDA it is just that Nvidia cards support OpenCl, AMD cards support OpenCl and the up and coming Intel Phi will support OpenCl. From a dev point of view supporting OpenCl covers all three companies where as if you just specialise in one like CUDA then you loose the other two. Same with Intel Phi, you could run 8086 cpu code but that wouldn't work for AMD or Nvidia cards. I am not saying that OpenCl is better than CUDA, just saying it covers more devices.

I think this should really be in a different thread as it doesn't have much of anything to do with this thread.
