Yeh, I meant in general. So you making roundhouse 3D geometry, or - 2 d shape. They look great either way.

Thanks. It's all full 3D geometry UV mapped, using a method we use at work.2D shapes are ok for compositing etc but for octane they would really show us as flat. I was going to use that for branches in the background but didn't look right.

Holy cow Batman! At least that's how I felt this month trying to sort through all the excellent work presented in just the render forum alone. I had over thirty tabs open as one point. After several passes I still had a good 15 tabs still open, more than twice what I could highlight. Incredible work be everyone this month but I had to narrow it down to six images. Congrats on making the front-page this month because the competition was stiff. This may be one of the best months I've seen in quite a while.

One image from this group also made the feature slot. You got two spots this month, not an easy task.

I haven't had much time to play in Octane lately except a few hours here and there to create the Pool Hall image. But this weekend has been a lot of fun getting back to it. I built the viper bay a while ago and planned to animate a Viper Launch sequence but never finished it.

I'm hating you more and more each day.

This looks great. Share some info. How have you textured it? Is it UVed or just using a UV node? What lighting are you using. It could easily be a still from the series (if it didn't look so real).

Thanks everyone. A second version with some different lighting and the settings used. The first image used the same settings, just a different colour range and one of the lights has been re-positioned.

One effect I wanted to try was an underwater effect. Octane is very good at surfaces etc but I wanted to see if I could use the render target post FX to simulate this kind of feel. At work we have a few water based shows so its something I know i'll need to get right. Sub model by me and the background is an underwater HDRi.

I would say you nailed it. Bloody good. Are you using any of the fog type settings in Octane (ie, having the whole thing be in a sss material)?

The only thing that would sell it a little more for me (although it already looks photo-realistic in my opinion) is some distortion of the background to simulate some kind of turbulence from the engines.

Great octane output as ever though.

Thanks Gordon. If I was doing post work on this it would need some distortion and bubbles and particles to really sell it. Ive done underwater shots before and the layers involved are massive. I was worried that underwater might be an issue with Octane because of the way it makes things so shiny and clean looking.

The way I did this was to set the aperture to 2% so there's a slight blurring. Use the autofocus so the camera is always shifting around which adds to the out of focus on some frames you get in real life and then cranked the bloom effect up to 350%. that adds a haze over the image and blends out the edges in a softer way. because the effect is so high it doesn't go too bright, it just adds a warm glow over the whole image.

Nice. And I guess you could even have the bloom controlled by an envelope to get more variation. One thing you could try is the trick to use the spot info of the object and the camera to automatically adjust the focus, but ad a random variation to it. Neat idea.

That looks convincing to me.

So you're planning to bring Octane into the work flow you're doing for clients? Lucky clients! This Octane is producing some stunning results and it would certainly kick a movie or tv show up a few notches.

Thanks Rigel. Yeah Octane has been adopted by everyone at work now. Really impressed with it and how fast it is to pick up. Highly recommend it to everyone.

One of the things I want to try in the future I building the interior to a cathedral. so I thought I'd have a go at some candle lighting.

Someone mention cathedrals? I am an architecture nut. I'd love to see you and others have a shot at a cathedral.

Very impressive. I have the viper bay mesh but I haven't textured it yet, I'd love to have Octane.

Candle looks great. I'm not sure that the light is shining through the wax enough at the top though. Difficult to tell.
