Me too--and I'm not sure if it's even meant to be close, but that background seems to scream the planet they go to and land on in Aliens - LV-81 or something?

Yep, its LV-426 from Alien (1979); out of the frying pan, into the fire

This looks incredibly realistic mate... sorry if this has already been asked, bu thow much of something like this is plain render, and how much work is in post?

@Rigel, thanks

@Matt, again thanks;
I do a raw render of Artoo in the environment with an AO pass, I then take these layers into PS and add filters (a plugin which emulates real world camera stock) to get the high contrast look, and finally I just tweak the curves to adjust the ambient dirt

Plugins are your best friend! Save so much time!

Also for this shot I did the cheap trick of increasing the image size (x4) and then decreasing the image back to it original aspect ratio to get smoothed/blurred areas

Typically how many layers are you managing in Photoshop?
I seem to find myself using between 15 and 30 in post.
Also, which plug-ins/filters specifically?

For most my pieces I tend to be anywhere from 5 to 15 layers, depending on composition.

The main plugin I use is Digi Film Tools > Film Stocks v1.5.

A little update, poster v.2

R2 poster update, and he now has a new body, which R2.0 spec (official R2 builders plans) which holds up much better when super hi res. Also I have tried to inject a little more colour in there so it would hold up better on the paper print.

Thanks chaps

I plan to do a number of poster shots, a series of 3 shots from iconic moments from the films; which means I am going to have to do a Vader one, so more to come
