Post it, we had a revised script but I can't seem to find it. If I do I'll post it as well.

Somehow Elowan don't think these will get released. There were allot of people involved. Never the less some really great designs and models.

A good share of them will either through Premiere Content or Resources but over time.

I'm pretty certain that they will be released. I think Bob may be staggering the releases though. As for the AA emplacement, I want to tweak some areas on it that I am not happy with: namely the anti-grav pads which do not work with the rest of the design at all. They need replacing with something... industrial.
I also have a couple of animations to upload once I get home from work. One is a lift-off shot from the Yavin Temple and the other is a fully rendered version of the Fleet jump-in.

[EDIT] And Bob posts 2 mins before I do...[/EDIT]

See first part of Bob's first post Elowan ...
When we were still LWG we started working on a Star Wars project, and we made a fair amount of progress on it. Much to the regret of all involved, we were unable to complete it. While we were all bummed about having to shut it down, the group did create a lot of very good models, some solid pre-vis anims, and art. Many, if not all, of the models will show up in the resources or the Premiere Content.
Darn you guys are fast....posted before me...grumble grumble....

UM, I have just one question: Who the hell would want to waste their time working on a STAR WARS project? I mean come on, Star Wars sux. We all know that, right? So who would ever waste gads of their time building of all things, Star Wars mesh? Jeez.

You know I'm KIDDING!

Awesome stuff gents, so sad it didn't pan out to the end. Lotsa talent in that talent pool eh.

May the Force be with you all... always.

The charcter CG is the main issue at this point plus even with the work you see we did not hit the standards we were looking for. Look at some of the cinematics for Blizzard and other game companies out there and you will see how far we had to go.

Then, there is the time issue, many of those who could pull it off are now working on major movie projects and have little if any time for a project like this.

Not saying we could but we weren't even half way there.

Now if, however, a few of the guys who I know could pull it off offered, well, I wouldn't say no.

Cool

Okay guys I found it....

In PDF format, this is the third revision of the script we were working to. The title at the time was called Revenge of the Empire and concerned the small detail which may have been officially addressed since but at the time I recall never quite working it out.... How did Vader learn of Luke Skywalkers name to go rampaging after him in Empire as explicitly mentioned in the opening crawl of that film?....

So up came this story, about the reprisal attack by the imperial fleet on the Rebel base on Yavin as it was being prepared for a hasty evacuation.

Enjoy

Unfortunately there were some very large holes in the team, not only in terms of motivation and availability etc but also skillset. It's one thing to have a load of nice assets that render up well and look pretty in stills as these do - and this board has a lot of good modelling/texturing talent to draw from as the pics show - but it is quite another to make them look good in motion. There isn't a large enough animation base on the forums to support this large a project really, and too few people who specialise in areas like FX and compositing.

It's nice to see the assets released though, they deserve to see the light of day

The ship work there is really nice. That TIE bomber is easily one of the best CG ones out there. Very nice lambda and corvette also.

As an aside, I didn't work on the project myself, but that is my star destroyer, Fabio's conversion to LW I assume?

That said it much better than I could have. Had I said that it would have come across as whinning so there was no point. Meurig is right and without getting into any more detail there just weren't enough of us left with that type of skill. Though a couple of us were tyring we just couldn't come up to skill in time or committ to the effort required at the time.

Interestingly though I was discussing this with someone in the studio today, the Yavin set was the last thing I recall having anything to do with (I started texturing it, but never got it finished, due to CN work commitments) but since then, my skill set has increased exponentially, as I'm sure others who were involved have too (after all a lot can happen in 4, nearly 5 years). After all since that time, I've learnt Maya (moving away from Lightwave in the process), rigging, proper UV mapping techniques, animation, compositing and motion graphics using After Effects (which I've taken 3 course in), match moving using Boujou (I'm sure Rhys since joining DNeg during that 5 year gap, you could say the same). So although, time is against me for a fair portion of the time and I couldn't in good conscience commit to picking this up again, I would venture a guess that if we all did it now it might well be a wholely different kettle of fish.

I have to agree on that.... Did I ever upload the Vader mesh? I know I didn't finish rigging him because of the cape, but those posters were done by someone and I can't for the life of me remember who did it. Bob, if you don't have Vader for upload let me know and I'll see if I can dig it up

Yep, I have Vader and he's ready to release. I believe Jason and perhaps Andy (Reaps) did the posters.

You know Lee you make a fair point. We have all learned a lot since then. I can now rig characters properly and pose them to some extent. Not good with the weight maps yet but I am sure I could pick that up as well. Still we're all much better now and what took us several false starts the first go around would not be an issue if it were now. And that being the case we would probably have gotten some animatics done.

But I still have my doubts as to hitting the quality of a Blizzard cinematic. I think we could have given it a hell of a good effort and it wouldn't have been unpleasent by any means but some of the game companies doing the type of work we were shooting for set a high standard.

Still, I am not ashamed that we tried and failed. We did something instead of just sitting around wishing about it. And in my books I would rather try and fail than to wish I had tried and always wonder. So I don't view this as a defeat, just a step in the learning process. I know much more than before and should we try something again that will play into it.

Just watched the videos, shame that this was never finished. It looks like it would have been really good. Maybe it will inspire a few of us to try a few animations once the models are available
