Default Architecture - Red Kitchen

Last week, I was working with some of my animaton students, showing them some advanced surfacing and lighting techniques in 3ds Max and was pleasantly suprised with the result: so much so that I have decided to post it here.

Rendered in 3ds Max 9 using Mental Ray.
Kitchen model courtesy of Evermotion.

Wow, that's a fantastic render Jason T. Very realistic. My only crit would be the curtains....definately have to go, IMO.

Really very nice for the most part. The only bits I don't like are the occasional overly-spangly bits of chrome.

Yeah the chrome is the only thing that throws it off. It looks almost to diffuse and is making it look flat.

I think that's something to do with the way Mental Ray calulates the FG & Photon map, Rhys. In my defense, I didn't plan for this to be rendered for display, but as a part of a lesson for some 18-year old students.
Perhaps I should re-visit the scene and play with the materials...

I agree that the chrome isn't especially good, and the AA needed to be higher to smooth it out. If you revisit you should run it through VRay, as that seems to produce superior results to MentalRay?

Cheers!

Now that's a thought.
All I need now is VRay...
