Default 2015 September Photo Challenge

September 2015 Photo Challenge

Topic For September

"Summer"

In the northern hemisphere, summer is winding down. In the southern hemisphere, summer is gearing up! Give us your best summer shots!

Rules as they exist thus far:

  1. Submissions are open for the month of September and are limited to 2 per person. (To clarify: you can submit until the voting booth is posted, which usually occurs on the first day of the month.)
  2. The sky's the limit for resolution (though it's understandable if people don't want to share highest res originals if they don't want to)
  3. Please upload your images using the "Single file upload Utility" then copy and paste the link into your post. That way, I can just copy and paste the link to add your entry to the monthly list (which saves me from saving the image and uploading it).
  4. Photo-manipulation is okay (retouching, red eye, colour balance tweaks etc; in this case a before and after would be required).
  5. Obvious photo-shopping is discouraged (no adding stuff that isn't there at all, or using canned 'make pretty picture' presets)
  6. Submitting photos which were submitted in previous challenges is discouraged. Use a new one!

Default Summer Sun Rise

We had a bit of a heatwave a couple of weeks ago so I went out for a walk before sunrise and saw this.

Default Port Stanley, Ontario, Canada

We were in Port Stanley, Ontario, Canada this past Sunday. Port Stanley is on the shore of Lake Eerie, one of the five great lakes (the smallest one I believe).

It was a lovely, lazy, end of summer day. A few people were playing beach volleyball, kids were swimming, people getting some late summer sun.

This first shot (iPhone 5C running iOS 9) was done with the phone held close to the ground then I held the shutter button to rapid shoot a series of frames. I was looking to capture one of the waves as it broke on the beach. Just above the horizon you can see a line of clouds; the United States of America is down there somewhere. Yes, the lake is big enough to look like an ocean!

This second shot is looking west, to show some of the amazing cloud formations we had that day.

P.S. I should mention that the wave in the first photo is only about 5cm tall!

Default Chateau Vartely

Got back from Moldova this afternoon, autumn is definitely here in London, but the last days of summer were still going strong out there.

Spotted this and immediately thought it was perfect for this challenge, it's the wall of the Chateau Vartely winery.

Default The Oldest Wooden Church

This church did not seem to have a name, but was universally referred to as the oldest wooden church, moved to this site and reconstructed there. You can just about see the numbers on some of the wooden chunks!

I kind of like the colours of the late summer sun on this one.

Nick

I have some nice summer beach photos, but they looked just like the ones Rigel posted. So here are a couple different impressions of summer.

"Ugh, bugs"

and
Butterfly

I always think its a shame we do not get to see more than the top three placings when there are this many good entries...

On the other hand, there are few things worse than seeing your entry sitting at the bottom of the list with zero votes.
