Default 2016 January Photo Challenge

January 2016 Photo Challenge

Topic For January

"Beginnings"

Rules as they exist thus far:

  1. Submissions are open for the month of January and are limited to 2 per person. (To clarify: you can submit until the voting booth is posted, which usually occurs on the first day of the month.)
  2. The sky's the limit for resolution (though it's understandable if people don't want to share highest res originals if they don't want to)
  3. Please upload your images using the "Single file upload Utility" then copy and paste the link into your post. That way, I can just copy and paste the link to add your entry to the monthly list (which saves me from saving the image and uploading it).
  4. Photo-manipulation is okay (retouching, red eye, colour balance tweaks etc; in this case a before and after would be required).
  5. Obvious photo-shopping is discouraged (no adding stuff that isn't there at all, or using canned 'make pretty picture' presets)
  6. Submitting photos which were submitted in previous challenges is discouraged. Use a new one!

Fitting for the current Star Wars popularity, I had an idea. . .

Originally I was just thinking along the lines of "in pieces" (with which everything begins), and then "assembled". My wife actually reminded me of a few more; for one the idea that modern Sci-Fi as we know it (minus the ground breaking social commentary of STTOS), was due to Star Wars, and furthermore, I don't know about you guys, but LEGO was one of the main toys I had growing up, sparking the imagination, and making you think in three dimensional terms.

So, in this instance, "beginnings" works on several levels.

ISO-100, f/4, Raynox DR-250 Macro Lens, hand-held.

And completed (again):

ISO-100, f/3.6, hand-held.

I have bigger versions if necessary.

This is a very cool interpretation of Beginnings.

Yes, I had some Lego when I was a kid. Lego you could actually build with, not just create one specific model and you were done.

Thanks! And yeah, absolutely. My wife still has a huge plastic container (the kind you'd use to move house) full of random LEGO parts. I also remember getting a LEGO Technics car as a present back then. That took me weeks to build back in the day, but it was totally worth it!

First Snow

Here's my first picture. I'm hoping to get another, but we'll see how that goes. It'll be a bit harder now that it's snowing...

Something like this was my first thought, but... I didn't find anything suitable. Nice shot!

All trains begin with one of these.
