Default SciFi - MECA 5520 Wichita

Finally got some time to get back into 3D. The first I do ... rework an old design with new ideas. This is my redesign of one of my older ships.

Still working on the basic hull lines. We'll see where this takes me....
Though some colors maybe temp..

Another small update. Testing out color schema. Even though she's a multi environment class ship. She usually sits in water to conserve power.

Main armament, 300mm Rail Rifles rated at 17i. meaning they have equal to or greater power then 17" cannons on old battleship designs.

Still toying with the model. Reworked the hull and turrets. They looked ...dull...
Also got rid of some of the colors. As they would be put in on the textures and not the geometry.

Crits be welcome

The UV textured version of the main turret. It may needs a few tweaks here and there. It is un-sub patched at the moment. Trying figure why i get distortion along the mid seam when i mirror and sub patch the mesh.

A bit of UV work. Had to cut the main hull into thirds to keep the pixel density of the map high enough to add details to the texture map.

There are 2 maps here. One for the main hull. The other for the equipment on the hull.

C anything off? let me know. Eyes kinda hurt after staring at a checkerboard for hours.

Finished up the UVs maps. (Eight so far.) Modeled in some new details. Working on the actual textures that go on the hull now.

What's actually textured...

The range finder...

Dorsal superstructure details ..

Heh, i really must work smaller projects...

No, no! Big projects are a lot more fun!

But you can set it aside for a while and do a smaller project, rather than burning out and abandoning it.

Texture alignment test one...

This is just a base texture on the hull plates.(i.e. low res) They are just a guide for when I made the actual plates in PS.

The texture is 2k x 2k. At the moment ...

Just upgraded to lightwave 2018 And what a difference it has made on surface of the model. Now the ship looks like a piece of plastic. I am going to have to relearn how to use the Texture editor again

It's also learning to understand how the lights work as well. I played with the demo for a few days and discovered that most of my models ended up looking like plastic as well.

Getting the surfaces to do want you want is a ... challenge.. anyways, been working on the surface details of the hull. Also tightening the mesh up.

the original low rez block out.

the updated low rez mesh.

the planned hi rez armor pattern. The colors are not perm. They are there just so i can see what i am doing in the mesh.
