Talking Architecture - The Never Ending Project

I'm at it again. Every couple of years I try to replicate my house and never get that far. This is the year I start again. My basement is the beginning of my new attempt.
Most of the textures are temp.

No I use 3D Studio Max 6. With Mental Ray and a little bit of HDRI.

I have wanted to do this sort of project for a long time.
Never in the same place long enough to get it going though.

I've been in the same place for 40 years so I don't really have an excuse.

UPDATE...
Started to install the windows. For some damn reason the light isn't coming through the glass.

I’ve done more work on the house. Made an opening for the bathroom door and added walls to the hallway that goes to the hallway and garage. And I fixed the window problem by turning off shadow casting. I also noticed that the floor tiles are too small.

Lookin good. In the third render I noticed a piece of molding hanging out in the middle of the floor and the corner nearest the figure's right foot is visible through the floor molding.

Got some more work done including a new and more accurate floor texture. I built a lamp and wall socket and the front window is nearly complete. I also managed to do some the exterior of the house and the front steps.

The floor looks much better now. The scale of the bricks on the fireplace look to be a bit small. Other than that, its shaping up nicely

Yeah keep meaning to make adjustments to those bricks but forget about it. The ones on the outside are a little big too.

UPDATE...
Got a bit more work done on the house. Mostly all I really did was the railing for the front steps and more of the outside wall. I also believe that the brick texture is now the right size.
The first picture was just a scanline render.
The second picture was rendered with Mental Ray and the third was just for fun.

Maybe its just the angle... but the scale of the stairs looks to big. More the scale of the actual steps themselves.

Maybe I over did the chamfers on the edges. But they look about right to me otherwise. And this entire thing is being built to scale. I can always double check the measurements but I'm sure I was right.

Might be the texture and the angle. The AO render doesn't look as off. Its likely just the angle then. Its hard to judge depth at that angle.

It's nice to see a regular type of basement - instead of all the torture chambers that are out there on many of the 3d sites . . . !

Looks like a nice place you're living in.

What are these Video Tapes you speak of? Mine are all stored in two drawers of an old dresser, heh heh.

UPDATE...
Out of a little bit or boredom and hatred of warm weather I decided to do something nice and simple so I made a table I have. The glass looking thing is the beginning of an ash tray.

Nearly done. Just need to add a small drawer.

Unfortunately Mental Ray is being a bit of a pain in the ass right now so I donít know how much farther Iíll get with this.
