Default Misc - Jordan's Ride

This last Sunday I spent the entire day from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm shooting two events, Jordan's Ride and Parktacular. The ride was to raise funds and awareness for SIDS, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. I shared a link from our photography page on my FB page if any of you care to have a look.

At the moment I am stitching a panorama that shows the magnitude of the event. Hope to have it in the bag when I return home from work this afternoon. And will post a small version of it here.

That sounds awesome, I'd love to see it, but I'm not on FB anymore. Is it on your photography site?

I'm shooting with a Canon 1D MkII for the most part. However it was in the shop for this event so I was using a rented 1D MkIV. I used two lenses for the shoot, a EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM and a EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM.

You can see the images I put up on my site here:

Here's that pano I promised.

Those are great images, Bob. And nice work on the pano. How do you put panos together? Is it fairly automated?

Thanks, I am still using a rather old piece of software for stitching panos (Realviz Stitcher Unlimited 5.5). Autodesk bought the software and I haven't updated it since. I've bought two other programs that are sometimes useful but I keep falling back to Stitcher. In this case it was the only one that could quickly and easily handle all the people who you can imagine were not standing idle for the pictures. I didn't find one, what I call, ghost in the pano. That would be where the stitching software can't decide which pose of the person to use. As to automation, I said quick. I let the the software auto stitch the images and my work was in post processing. That image was a 180 degree pan which is why you get the wrap at the edges. So I had to add some sky and do a little warping of the image so as not to loose too much of the image which I felt was critical to the overall composition. Of course I also adjust shadow/highlight and the sky. It was an extremely hazy day and I went for the stage and crowd so the sky was washed and blah.

I find PT Gui VERY effective for pano stitching. There's very little it can't handle automatically, and it can produce a layered PSD file as output, which really makes it easy to fine tune the joins.
