Default SciFi - [BSG] "The Siege of Picon"

Backstory: (I made this up in about the time it took to type it)

In the early days of 'The First Cylon War
' the Cylons invaded Picon attempting to take control of Picon fleet headquarters, the command center coordinating the newly unified Colonial Fleet, requiring intervention by the then flagship of the Caprican branch of the colonial military.. the Galactica.

The easy part is re-branding existing 3d assets with pre-BSG era colonial emblems..

Shown below:
My battlestar hanger sporting some spiffy Caprica flags courtesy of battlestarwiki
Shown in the same image is PolyX's raptor, converted into LightWave (it came through as one giant surface with a few overlapping parts so this wasn't so trivial as it seems), similarly branded.

(and yes, the raptor is floating several inches off the ground.. I just noticed that)

The hard part... making the actual city that's going to be under siege Picon is supposed to be mostly water, and the only city we've seen there is a port (no surprise there) so a few streets, a skyline, a dock, and of course the infamous 'fleet headquarters' is really all I need to make The nice part is since we've never seen any of these things on screen I can pretty much make up whatever details I want... Pisces Fish Market anyone

Looks good so far today.

By the way, the raptor is floating above the floor.

*ducks*

Galactica lands its raptors at the eh.. Poseidon St. Seaport.. to help evacuate civilians and whatnot, but as the raptor crews return a crafty cylon raider drops down from the sky and starts targeting the pier

Still working on the environment, this is just a quick sketch to see what the seaport/docks/pier is going to look like.

I see a guest appearance by VK08 in that shot.

I like how the water is more transparent in the shadow; well done.

It's starting to push it towards absolutely absurd render times (~5 to 6 minutes per frame with no motion blur yet) but I've added in a displacement map generated landscape... I've got to find a way to bring those render times down or it's going to be pretty useless for an animation

Between the water and the ground I've got almost 3million polys in this scene, that's probably not the best way to approach this particular scene

Ouch I just realized a bunch of those polys I was crediting to the landscape are actually from my Cylon Centurion... I guess it's time for a version2.0 on that guy, see if I can't knock out a lower poly version of him
