Thanks guys.

I'm liking LW2019 so far John.

Slow progress but I've made a start on the ships spine...

Glad to hear it Tony. takes some getting used to to get the renders you want. I just hope that in the next few releases we get some modeler love, it really needs sorting out now.

Progress is progress and always got to love a B5 Omega, it's a shame we don't see more B5 they had some great ships.

Damn that Chris Khun and his churning models out so fast. Now he's doing an Omega so I feel guilted into doing some more on this beast...

I was really unhappy with the armour on my last renders, the panel texture was horrible so I've had a few attempts at trying to find something to put on the armour that I A/ don't end up hating and B/ doesn't start running away with the poly count.

Yesterday I was searching around on Google for some panel greeble inspiration when I found this texture pack for sale on CGTrader. I liked the look so I decided to try to model something based on it. One and a half days later I have this. I'm happy with how it looks and the poly count is nowhere near what my last few attempts were like. I even made some little decals to go on it...

It took eight years but I'm finally listening to the advice Meurig gave

I was getting too wrapped up in different styles of paneling on the hull of the ship and he was right they looked good up close but 'busy' at a distance. I've decided to give a 'plainer' hull a try. Inspired by modern naval ships this version will feature large flat areas with a subtle 'bump' texture to imply structure behind the skin. For now I've just cubic mapped a bump texture but I'll UV one later. I will cut some hatches and small details in to break it up a bit but not much. The 'decals' are now modeled rather than textures as I was noticing some issues with the textures.

I've also rebuilt a lot of it to try to reduce the poly count but it's still pretty high.

So here is my progress so far (about 5 days) on revision 18 of this ship, lol, I wonder if I'll ever get it close to finished...

Update...

Modeling is almost complete for the ships bow and engines. About 50% complete for the forward spine and about 10% done on the drive section.
