Pretty freaking nice man! Look forward to seeing these all textured and in a scene!

...This contest may make me reboot B5-Blender actually...

Detailing, color and labeling is almost where I want it before I really start weathering. I'm almost reluctant to do any damage to the nice, clean skin!

Thanks for the great crits and compliments guys, I really like the feeling that I get from these forums, friendly, nice, talented people. Thanks for being here!

Then save a factory fresh version before you start weathering, two models!

I really like that last render, it has a definite military look and feel to it now. Maybe the flat grey is old hat air force but it still makes a message statement.

Thanks for the great compliments everyone, I really appreciate all the positive (and negative, but constructively so) feedback.

In getting the model ready to upload, I'm rigging it with some rudimentary thruster effects, and they're hopefully going to be cross-platform, no matter what 3d program you wind up using it with.

I've created a simple 4 polygon object with a thrust texture (side view) painted quickly in Photoshop (if I had put more thought into it, I would have included an alpha map for transparency)

When the object is cranked up to full transparency and full glow, you get a really neat thrust effect that's pretty easy on render times. 4 simple point lights complete the effect.

I've made the effect somewhat asymmetrical so that if you rotate the thrust effect along it's axis at a pretty high rate (say 4-10 times a second) you will get a neat flicker effect.

There is one more polygon when you view it from end-on, and the other 4 polygons make a bit of a neat star pattern. More Polygons would compound this effect, but I find the 8 pointed star pattern to be the most effective

I've spent years messing around with glow balls, luminous effects and lens flares, and NOTHING gives me as much, precise control as hand drawing my own effect in photoshop. I've used this technique for tracers, fires, nebulas, you name it.

For advanced users, you could even apply an animation as a texture, and get even cooler effects.

Try using objects like this with a particle system and you see how far it can go. The payoff in render times alone makes it worth it in many instances.

I realize this is a probably a pretty rudimentary technique to you guys, but I figured it out on my own a long time ago, and was really proud of myself for figuring out before realizing that nearly every game does the exact same thing!

I'll rig the Super-Fury with thruster effects grouped by action (Yaw Left, Roll Right, Pitch Up, etc) so that whomever is playing with it can just turn them on and off, regardless of 3d platform.

I'll also add a 3D muzzle flash on the pulse cannon, to complete the package, I want to see people animating this thing and putting it through it's paces!

That's just the standard modo renderer, with a couple dome lights for fillers...

Looks nice. I was wondering if it was Vray because of the sort of dispersion effect in the cockpit glass, since Vray 2.0 has a new dispersion feature.

Thanks everybody, the cockpit on the classic model is complete!

I added some MFDs in place of the show's switches and dials, it made more sense and was less work!

nice models and nice renders, the thrusters seem to work really well for quick and dirty!

Getting really close on the original, something funky is going on with Modo, and the blurry reflections quit working every once in a while, and now is one of those whiles.

I know the fury was designed for non-atmospheric maneuvering, but they're also based on B5 where they have to be worked on day in and day out by crews in gravity, so I tried to add a few "no steps" here and there, and some non-slip walkways.

Michael O'Hare's face seemed to work nearly perfectly on the head I had built. He doesn't have any hair, and the closeups are pretty terrible, but if you don't get any closer than shot 5 you'll be fine!

I do plan on releasing both of these once I get the new Cobra-bay done (oops, that just slipped out! )
