So my theory is that the guy they rescued is a klingon spy, and the whole thing was engineered to get him and the captain back to the ship.

One of the things I've read is something about a spore drive and it's connected by a mushroom, is this true? It sounds like the writers are eating mushrooms.

Are you telling me a man dresses as a bat and punches people with mental issues?! It sounds like any story can be made to sound stupid if you're reductive about it.

interesting idea. Lorca is so paranoid, that if so he would be unmasked soon. SEEms too subtle for Klingons to put Lorca in a cell with a collaborator and spy.

That's more believable than a mushroom that connects the universe.

Well, I'd say there's a valid point in there...

Try replacing "Reverse the polarity!" with "Put the battery in backwards!"

And a lot of SF just combines a technical term with a mundane one assiociated with what you want to happen, e.g. "Quantum Signature", "Tachyon Fingerprint"...

It even works if you combine biology terms and kitchen utensils, see attached, as demonstrated by Abelard Snazz, the man with 2 brains.

I guess someone decided that magic crystals connecting the stars was just too '80s.

I don't get the Klingons. CHOOSE YOUR PAIN. It's too simple. At least the warden was a bit more talkative when torturing Lorca. The Klingons should be clever, and manipulative, and chatty. Not all this FOLLOW T'KUVMA nonsense.

Making them more like animals cheapens them I think.

Overall a slightly better episode, but it's still very poor. Again, the Orville is doing star trek much better than star trek is.

The Discovery writers will use that whisk idea next! What's this space pig I heard about that sends them halfway across the galaxy?

frat house in SPACEEEEE

oh quaint classical music. worse it was all bad remakes of old 70s songs.

had more issues with the pull it out of your ass remarks and solutions to push the plot. Sadly most TV is like this now.

^It's not a coincidence that that guy has the same name as Discovery's Chief Mushroom Officer.

Actually, somewhat to my surprise, I am rather enjoying this series. More so than any Trek since the first one.

The characters have much more complex backgrounds and motivations, (eliminating much of the black hat white hat approach), the story goes somewhere rather than just being random order episodes. Also wise to bring the key characters in one at a time, rather than cram it all in the first episode.

Visually the use of stronger colour works well for me, though I have to wonder just how huge the star fleet budget is for blue LED's...

The bridge actually looks like it would work as a bridge, the others were all more like an airport lounge with a big screen on one wall...

Their use of key figures form the original is also rathjer well done, which really surprises me. Harry Mudd and Sarek spring to mind...

Mind you I still don't like the magic interstellar teleport fungus, and the redesigned klingons look like someone was wondering how much weight of prosthetics an actor can have and still stand up without a neck brace...

I'm not keen on Mudd being a mass murderer.

technically Mudd murdered no one since those time loops do not exist. Mudd is a meaner piece of work than in TOS.

And surely, when suspicious, he'd blow it all up just to check for that final twist, rather than trust the crew, who just seem to accept it after all their working against him. It was just a daft way to end the problem they'd boxed themselves into. DISCO really sucks.

People have been swearing for as long as they have been talking, do you really think they are going to grow out of it in the next 300 years?
