Default Dec. 2015 - Jan. 2016 Resource Appreciation

Welcome Back to Resource Appreciation!

This bi-monthly theme is:

My wish list

The primary idea behind this is to create a render using the site resources which would be something on your wish list. It can be anything from any genre.

Some wishes might include:
  1. The Millennium Falcon in your driveway
  2. A ride in an F16
  3. Drive a car from a Bond move
  4. Flying the Enterprise through a nebulae
  5. Defending the Earth against an alien invasion

The whole point of this contest is to have fun, learn new skills, and create new ideas. It’s meant as a way for members to enjoy the process when they have the time and inclination and provides a mechanism to be recognized by your peers at the end of each contest. And it is meant as a way of saying thanks to all of those members who provide models, textures and presets for everyone to enjoy.

So enjoy, I know I will be looking forward to your creativity, ingenuity and genius.

RULES

1. Images must be at least 1024 resolution (1024 x 768) or higher.

2. At least one item from the Foundation 3D Resources must be highlighted in the image. Premiere Content is also suitable.

3. An image can be submitted without Foundation 3D Resources, but it must meet two criteria:
a) The image must contain one 3D model or background created by the artist submitting the image.
b) The resource they created must be uploaded to F3D on the same day the image is submitted so other people may use it in future Resource Appreciation contests.

4. Each member may enter two images per contest - Images must be posted in the Resource Appreciation contest thread and the 3D Stills forum. Collaboration between member is welcomed and encouraged.

5. You may use models from other sources so long as requirement two or three is met.

6. You must provide details in your post crediting authors, sources, etc.

7. Images may be done using any application and pipeline available to you.

8. Images must be hosted using our hosting.

9. Polling will begin the first week of each contest, for the previous contest, and will last for one week.

10. The voting will not be just a popularity vote. Voters are asked to consider not only the look and quality of the image, but also the uniqueness and creativity of the image. This is done to encourage beginning artists to submit works as well as seasoned veterans.

Very limited time, and a lot of other projects I want to get underway...

Sorry!

December just kind of went by in a blur, but I'll see if I can put something together, might kickstart some interest in other people.

Love it. Great image.

I think there would be less paralax (not sure if that's the right word). visible on the x-wing though as the shot looks like it was taken with a long lens. I would just make sure that the render camera is a good 300mm and frame it as you have. Unless of course you have, and I'm talking bollocks

I think you mean the perspective is different - wider angle view of the X-wing than the Sun.

The Sun, (well, our Sun!) is half a degree across, so that implies a strong zoom on the background.

But yes, really nice composition.

Accurate. I realized a week and a half before 12/25 that it's only 10 days away. . .

Interesting topic though, I'll see if I can conjure something up.

Default Dream Birds

I thought I'd use a couple of "wish I owned them" spaceships to my wish list RA. They're not strictly correct for a Force Awaken time line but I do wish I owned em' and when Disney puts the full size Falcon on display then I'm going.

I know I'm out of my league when it comes to stunning visuals, but since the regulars are extra busy for this one, may I try?

Theme. Wouldn't we all wish to experience a space-time portal, and peek into the "other side" ?

Nice idea that is looking good, and hey, being out of league. . . I wouldn't go that far at all. It's all a learning process. If I look at some of my stuff from only a few years ago I get a minor seizure! If I ever stopped learning, what would be the point in doing anything?

Default A Journey to Saturn

As a true "2001" aficionado will know, the original plan was to send the Discovery to Saturn, but they couldn't work out how to do the rings well enough. This was later taken up in Silent Running.

To explain the tie in with the RA theme, for me the Cassini mission to Saturn has returned more jaw dropping images than any other, by a considerable margin. The idea of going to this distant world to see it for real is the best trip I can imagine, and the "Discovery" from 2001 looks like a very nice way to get there. Well, provided that some much needed software upgrades are applied to the main computer before departure anyway.
