Well you could use the bits that you can see in the intro
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtrUhIuEqdY

Or there should be a long scene with it in one of the last episodes, when Sheridan and Delen left the station for minbar and Lochley, Vir and so on waved them goodby from the C&C window to the whitestarwindow.

Always good to hear from one of The Firstones, Jack!!

Yes! The docking bay version 2 is in the resources section and was made to fit the station made by James Reding. With a small modification to the tunnel entrance proportions I lifted the outer tunnel and doors and the greebles into this model. Saved a lot of time!

Not sure yet whether to do a total version 3 to supply with this B5 Station or not. I suppose it depends on the demand by animators to do a single shot entry to the lift area from outside the station!

Thanks for stopping by, Jack!

Thanks!

Here's the C&C modelled. Still needs lots of Greebles in that area! It's clone is mirrored on the opposite radial!

Being the one who is doing the C&C interior at the moment I must say that I don't think this shape is working.

I think it should be much more connected to the station-wall.

Here are some screens of the model to get the idea.

Everything else is just wonderful!!

And here is a screen of Fabios model from TLT. Not a very good one, I know, but I think he made some connections at the back of the cylinder to make it less stand out.

He should correct me if I am wrong.

It all depends on the version of the C&C that you are using. The C&C of the pilot might fit in just that one cylinder shape.

Thanks for the encouragement. Nick! I must admit that I'm beginning to suffer from Greebleitis and although I'm just as motivated to continue this, I'm slowing down a lot and this docking ring is taking too long and I look forward to doing the static superstructure modelling!

I agree that the images of the actual set do not fit the CG externals too well, but that is not unusual in film productions. The real set has much more space in it than is available in that CG model! I do have all of Fabio's renders and have connected the C&C to the main structure as in the refs (the TLT C&C connects to the main structure by a short tunnel, which presumeably contains the corridor outside the rear door!). I'll post up some renders tomorrow, which will illustrate that!

Where I know I'm wrong is that I think my version is slightly too large with respect to the surrounding structure.

Thanks for the comments. Keeps me on my toes!

Great progress!
But i think the Commandcenter should be much more "attached" to the station, more like on this two screenshots.
Maybe it´s correct how you do it but from what i´ve seen in the series it should be more like on the second picture, Amras should know the model

Now that I see that, I realise that the C&C of our mod model is kind of upside down.

Well you have now the artistic freedom to make it fit! Why insist on the reference of only one (storywise disappointing) movie instead of getting along with 5 seasons of B5.
I love Fabios model! Although I always had the impression that he run out of time when he got to the the upper and rear elements of the station.

I think such a central cgi and story element like the C&C should fit to the real set.
Or think about this: If we want to make an animation where a camera is flying through the C&C and then out the window turning around to see the C&C from the outside... well we are in B5 and not Doctor Who.
Aaand such an exposed main "bridge" would be a nice target for an incoming fleet...

But whatever you decide, your station model is awesome!

That first image looks to me to be of a black cat in an unlit coal cellar at midnight and is pretty useless as references go!
The second one is a very low rez mod model with the C&C far too embedded and upside down. Frankly irrelevant here!

I'll move it back a bit and build out the cross structure there to make it more "attached" but reluctantly!

It is your party! If you don't want to do it, don't do it!!

If I ever get my hands on this model I can do my own version of the C&C exterior.

*edit
Made a rough shape for the exterior.
I think there is a simple solution to get everyone happy. Just make the window smaller

*edit2
Made an exact shape.
I guess no one did have a look at the cgi exterior model after they changed the set design.
It did fit perfect before they added the corner with the desk for the commander and the extended room on the right side of the main console.

The window in my model has a width of ~3,7m and a height of ~2,5m if it is of any help.
I will shut up now.

Here is the Docking Ring finished as far as I'm concerned apart from some adjustments to the texturing when I get to see the whole station!
Hope you like!

Well, while we're making requests ( ), I'm curious if you're planning to to add the Sanctuary, the little circular room below the back-end of the Cobra Bay (I'm pretty sure it's not on Fabio's original, and it only showed up when it was needed on the show model). I've wanted to see someone put one on B5 to scale, since it was always shown way too big in the series (the best place to see how weird it is in the season 5 premiere, where a Starfury is outside the Sanctuary and scaled to match it, and you can see it's two or three times wider than the Cobra Bay doors it just flew out of).

I'm really liking the way this model is going. I'd been thinking/dreading that I'd need to make my own TLT-style B5 if I wanted to continue my CGI re-do. This would give me a big head-start.

Thanks for your comments, David!
I wasn't planning on doing the Sanctuary as, frankly, I had forgotten that brief appearance in Season 5, Episode 1. But I've just checked out that scene on the DVD and managed to grab a few screen caps such as:

It looks a lot like the C&C exterior with a different window frame and more set back into the main structure, so it shouldn't take too long to modify that and fit it in place. It certainly doesn't appear on the B5:TLT references but as I'm going to be working that area anyway, I'll add it!
I don't suppose you know if it appears on all four Cobra Bays?

Thanks again!

Like I said, it usually only popped up when it was needed (I imagine it was a separate object they dropped on top of the main model back in season one, not realizing it wasn't going to just be a one-off in it's first appearance, so not worrying that anyone standing in it was five levels tall based on the windows next to it). Mostly it only showed up in close ups, or that one establishing shot spiraling towards it (the first one you screen-capped). I remember there being a shot when you saw it incidentally from a distance, and there was only one. I don't think that makes a lot of sense for the "real" station. On the other hand, it was always referred to as "the" Sanctuary, but then B5 used the definite article often enough for things there were definitely more than one of so, I guess it's up to you. If I were modeling it, aside from shrinking it down to the right scale, I'd also put one for each cobra bay.

Wow the level of detail has come up a notch since the last time I looked. Going to be a stunner I'm sure.
