I see everythiiiiing!

It does look better already. I think the problem could be, that your ribby thingies are as long as the main line is thick. In Fabios model they are half as long as the line (with the lights on it) is thick.

Aaaand some of the details are still missing no matter if you are using the original model or fabios version as reference.

Ok, the squares on the front sphere are hard to see, but they are there. He just added them to the texture instead of modelling them out like he did with the others. Maybe they did draw too much attention to the front part of the station.

If it was anyone else but you, Amras, I would think they were deliberately pulling my wotsit and enjoying watching me jump through hoops! And to think that I voted to remain in the EU!
The next render I post will definitely have those sticky-out panels with a large hole in. I've been trying to get around to doing those for about a year now! At least the number of red arrows have lessened!

I am German, I have to keep up the cliché that we are brutally direct.
And I think if we are posting our stuff in a 3d Forum, then we want to have real critic and ideas for improvement. Otherwise we are getting lazy. ^^

I know you do! Just wanted to make sure others do, when they read me.

Locking good. although i don't think that there is a hole in it. Just a lowered area.

Oops! Looked like a hole. Must be more careful checking references! Although I will say that I have deliberately introduced some subtle (and not so subtle) differences from the TLT model purely to individualise and identify this one. You could say that this is one of them!
Anyway, it's too late now. I chucked away the bit in the middle. Last seen floating toward the jump gate!

Default B5 Animation.

Still got some detail modelling and textures to do but I had to put some life into this beast. It's only a quick test to check on the rotation speed and strobe lights timing. I noticed that the chasing Starfury's port upper engine has "flamed out"! Must check that flare intensity envelope!
This video is full HD 1920x1080. At least it was before YT messed with it! If anyone wants the rar file of this I can send it. It's about 1.5 GB though. I think it's too big to upload here and my F3D ftp doesn't work.

The rotation feels a bit fast. But that could be only me not 100% awake yet.
I bet we could calculate the exact speed. ^^

Great animation!

Thanks, AA!
Yes, I think it is a tad too fast, also. If I could remember the formulae connecting angular rotation, radius from centre and centripetal (centrifugal whatever) force I could do it but ....!
The only dimension that is known (here we go again) is that the hull diameter at the garden is 1km (possibly?) and, presumeably, the gravity at that surface is supposed to be 1 Earth g (possibly?). The speed I have here is 1 revolution in 1200 frames at 24 fps. So, come on all you mathematicians!

With a radius of 1km, and a supposed 1g at 1km, I get the rotational speed at 0.946 RPM , or 0.2365 degrees per frame at 24 FPS. That's 1522.2 frames for one rotation, so a little slower than 1200.

Thanks for that, Crooky
However, I thought that the hull was 1km inside diameter not radius at that point! Mind you, 1 revolution per 1500 frames sounds a bit more realistic to me. I suppose I could do the animation again with that plugged in and compare it visually.

I see Youtube have reduced my animation to 720p, bless them!

Bloody hell! That looks freaking amazing! Even with the flickering caused by the AA settings, it looks freaking amazing!

Thanks, Rigel
I had to keep the AA reasonably low in order to complete the render overnight! At the moment, with my current settings it starts out at 25seconds per frame full HD and rises to about 37 seconds pf at the end when closer in. Doesn't sound a lot but that's about 9 hours for the 1200 frame sequence. When I do an animation of the final model I'll probably go for a frame render time of about 2 minutes whatever AA that equates to.

Coming back to Crook's calculations, I just checked a few things and the cylinder is doing 1 rev in 1000 frames at the moment not 1200 as I said and looking back over my notes the DIAMETER of the centre garden section is 1 MILE which is about 1.6 kms. So back to you, Crooky for a re-calculation if you don't mind!

Diameter of 1 mile = 1.054426 rpm, so 6.326556 degrees per second, 0.2636065 degrees per frame at 24fps, and thats 1365.67 frames per rotation.

Yeah well you know the Germans, finicky , having said that in this Germans case, what he says should be given serious consideration and anything that improves the model is always good.

Oh and yes the rotation does seem a little fast. Also the engine glow (Top Left) on the second fighter seems to have well lost some of its glow, could be the angle maybe.

From my original post - already caught that one. I stuffed up that engines flare intensity envelope. Still 7 out of 8 isn't too bad

Thanks, Mike. I'll check that out. Funny thing is, that after I uploaded it, they were showing it at the full HD resolution. But after a time it was only available in 720p.

Re-rendered the clip with a few corrections. I repaired the starfury's duff engine and toned down the docking strobe lights flares. Upped the AA somewhat also resulting in a frame render time of between 1:30 and 2 mins. Quite acceptable for a home job! Also I changed the rotation to 1 rev in 1300 frames @24 fps based on Crook's calculations!

As before watch in 1080p if possible!
