Default Babylon 5 - IPX Icarus

After several weeks of not being able to post due to my account privileges getting trashed for some reason, I am now able to post again. My thanks to Rigel for tolerating my nags and, of course, to Bob who finally fixed it. While all this was going on I started posting this on the Newtek forum. But now that I'm able to post, here is the latest on this project. My thanks to Alex Proffitt as I used his original model of Icarus to get the proportions roughly correct although if his model was wrong then so is mine!
As you can see from the 6 foot Mr. Morden this model is a little nearer the proper scale.
I've still go a shed load of greebles to do and the texture mapping needs some attention. I've also got the thruster animation working so I'll be doing an animation of the Icarus landing on Za'Ha'Dum. Something which was never shown in the show!

Should've landed it ON Mr Morden, not next to him

Looking good Ted.

Default Icarus Landing

This is a draft animation of Icarus landing on Z'Ha'Dum.
I've got a few extras to add such as dust clouds kicked up by the thrusters and the model is not quite finished, but I hope you get the idea!

Suggestions welcome!

Looks great, esp the thrusters interacting with the deck. I'd also say limit the velocity of the camera rotation. It's easy to lock the camera onto the ship, but as it passes it looks very odd because of the camera whipping around. Let the ship go out of frame and then the other shot going to the planet let it come into the frame.. Some camera movement sure, esp panning sideways away from the ship as the ship comes towards it, but you don't need the ship center frame all the time.

The Icarus was large as well, so slower movements would be better than quicker, to give it weight. Put that thing close to the camera as it comes by, give it a sense of scale.

Z'Ha'Dum looks lovely there, esp with the nebula backdrop.

Thanks for the ideas!
I agree with you technically about the camera panning but I wanted to do the big, dramatic reveal of that beautiful nebula as the camera follows the ship round from dark, empty space .
However, I'll try and incorporate what you suggest in the next version!
