I either clone off polys from the hull then clear them of unwanted edges verts etc then extrude em in, or I make a box delete one side flip all the normals and adjust to fit behind the hull then map self illuminating maps. The re-connie and balmung that are avalible for download use this, so does the drydock. I rarely waste more than 5 polygons per interior box. Unless the hull or a special room requires more.

Cutaway showing interior some tweaking needed on the rough shape due to the small door and forward windows only the interior will be really rough blocked in shapes. Say a really low poly console and a bench/bed deal. I might spend time on the flight console since it will be right under the window.

Detail level will be hero level, so that the shuttle can be used as a primary subject etc, or just a back drop dressing.

Ok doors rigged, though beating on multiple nacelles, after opening the doors and thinking about things, I started thinking maybe I shouldn't do a nacelle dragger. . . hrmm maybe do nacelles on pylons with proper gear? Or leave her as is and do another shuttle later on with landing gear. HRMMMMMMMM lol Truth be I should get to some of my NON trek projects though.
Yeah I know I got some wonky stuff going on on those impulse pylon things, all of that detail will be removed and redone. Some ways Im regretting not just rebuilding this from scratch, the mess of old modeling is in some ways annoying to work around.

What amazes me is that you're able to keep so many projects moving. I've been trying to finish projects and get them out of the way.

Bob... you never get bored because you've always got a project. The drawback is you have to spend less time doing other things.

I like the new impulse; it seems to fit better into the overall shape of the hull.

New nacelles and more details on the impulse. The main bodies of the nacelles are just roughed in subdiv I need to nail out some of the shapes more, it is all a bit soft right now.
And uh yeah, I will be moving those sensor pits, or rather removing them.

Re-thinking those grill things on the aft end near those impulse engines. I also need to fix that glowing panel in the door area. Looks like I got some plating to do non the hull and markings with lights and a few phaser strips and I should be done.
Oh and a pair of chairs

I know this is a ugly ass render with hidden edge errors all over and a segmented delta. All of these have been corrected as a type. Im just not willing to re render this, taking longer and longer to make renders, I think my proc is slowly killing itself, mobo unfortunately is a old 680i so its quite useless for upgrades if that is even possible anymore. That or some setting in MR got jilted. Ill be addressing this before release.
Anyhoo should have this done soon.
Ship name is from a unfinished patrol boat I had worked on a while back, which might return as a WIP.

This looks very clean and I always enjoy your nacelle lighting setups. There is one small thing that stands out though, and that's the gold piece of the side pennant; there is some obvious segmentation in the edges of it, that is, not a smooth curve.

yup fixed that like I said last night here is a cheapo render. Just a few seconds with the chamfer verts thing, and redoing the hidden lines.

I am thinking that solid red area is too short, in comparison to other shuttles but most of those are kinda all different in the decals size and locations. (or lack of) Considering thinning it too. hrmm

Oh yeah uh, nacelles are just a transparent poly over self ilum tubes. The warp grid is set to diffuse the light or what you see through them, dont know all the terms etc (both those and the bussards need adjusting atm though its a bit blochy and I think it has to do with the low FG settings I changed to recently)

The thing with Star Trek design is that every time the production crew changed, they insisted on redesigning everything so that it was their work, not the other guy's work. Thus, there are as many different decal sets as there were production teams.

Go with what looks good on your shuttle. I think the stripes you have fit in with the angular shape of the hull quite nicely.

Not to be a tease but I have been digging around my WIP directories. Im posting some projects that I need to decide if I will finish them off or close the book on them.

Linerunner Class: USS Loegaire
Attachment 25809
Attachment 25810
Attachment 25811
This one is sorta done I guess just left it in limbo. It contains a full drop ship with interiors as well as a dock and basic interior for the drop ship. It also has eyecandy rooms.

Hisame Class: USS Fuchi USS Kishimojin
Attachment 25812
Attachment 25813
Attachment 25814
This one is roughed in has shuttle bays and some detailing, nacelles need some serious work. This is a post TNG border guard that works in conjunction with the following ship, like an escort to the larger ship.

Jigoku Class: USS Jigoku
Attachment 25815
Attachment 25816
Attachment 25817
Attachment 25818
Probably the same stage as the prior ship. Probably needs some rebuilding to fix some filthy wires.

Some goofing off with unfinished models:
Attachment 25819

Klingon Strike Ship ( I forget the class and shipnames I chose, have to backtrack that info)
Attachment 25820
Attachment 25821
Attachment 25822
Attachment 25823
Attachment 25824
Attachment 25825
Attachment 25826
This thing Im not sure WTF I will do with it. It is old enough that it probably is a gut wrenching pukefest of horrible work flow and bad gas. :barf:
And on top of all this are the other threads scattered about on this board. A shuttle The wing thing Eaves doughnut the Onimaru (near the op of this thread) The Lethe, that unamed post TMP explorer.

There are older designs but SOO old that they are plainly SCARY and technicaly would require total rebuilds such as this example

Awright, you're just too good with these original designs, imo. As always i like seeing them and I have to say a couple of those Klingons look better than the movie versions.

Ah thanks mate, the KSS is kind of calling me. but for now I want to get the Lethe up to snuff so she can play with the re-connie soon.

And as to that here are some renders as I muck with materials settings. Im considering doing like the reboot trek and making these older ships stand out more with a darker look. Maybe give her a more ENT like hull material, a bit more shine and metallic feeling.
As for details and modeling, here is a breakdown
1 do something with those nacelle end caps
2 arrange the bussards to something similar to the re-connie's but still look like a precursor
3 possibly arrange different impulse engines, maybe something a bit meatier
4 readdress the struts
5 redo those inter coolers
6 remap the thing
7 possibly plate up those nacelles, not heavily but similar to the main hull.
8 fix all the interior room boxes, its like there is a ship wide power outage atm dunno why

I was toying with the idea of converting her to Mental Ray but then that would interfere with the re-connies default set up so I will retain scanline for this project (least materials wise)

PLZ ignore the heavy grid mapping on the upper saucer, I will be doing something else I think here. Not to happy with the grimy look. Oh and I know about the odd black block near the RCS AND yes, uh that backdrop is ANCIENT I'll replace it soon.

She is a odd little boat, but in her uglyness lies some nice angles

By close the book on them do you mean scrap them and never come back to them? If so, I think that would be a shame. These designs are pretty great, even if you're not happy with the modeling in parts. If you do decide to kill them I'd suggest you release them as is, if nothing else for people to have a look at, or put at the back of scenes as filler ships etc. I only say that as I think it would be a shame for them to go to sillicon heaven...

That is what I mean by close the book, put em away.
The Klingon ship might look cool but she is a nightmare of old modeling skills.
Upon looking at these I have decided I SHOULD stop making new projects until I decide what Im going to do with these. Or at least until I finish up some of these past projects.

That ENT Kbop though is definitely dead lol modeled off some screen grabs and a schematic under someones thumb. And a tonne of horrible modeling.
