Just thought I'd provide a brief update - decided to permanently relocate the Panasonic player to the bedroom (as it's more compatible with the Dell monitor @ 4K) and installed the XBOX One S underneath the TV in the living room.

Now have fifteen titles with the Hunger Games box set on its way, plus Hidden Figures (which was one of my favourite movies recently) pre-ordered for July.

If you do get a player, let me know as I have a spare copy of Ghostbusters (2016) which includes the best HDR I've ever seen on any UHD disc. This is the copy I got free with the Panasonic, but have since obtained a full retail edition with a standard Blu-ray and bonus extras disc.

I've got to say, you were right about HDR. Especially when you see it side-by-side with the standard Blu-ray. I've noticed the big improvement in just how natural the lighting looks, and it seems to have a bigger impact on medium-lit or darker scenes. Scenes at dawn, dusk, or at night actually look like dawn, dusk, or night. It's something you experience in the theater that's been gone from home video until now. (Theater uses a 12-bit encode, I looked it up.. so UHD isn't quite there, but 10-bit is a hell of a lot closer).

I don't have a lot of 4K discs yet, but they've all been pretty good so far. Logan looks fantastic, as you'd expect. I haven't watched the Blu-ray, but I did watch the behind-the-scenes stuff (which is on the Blu-ray) and kept thinking how... bland the lighting and color looked. And it's not even that colorful a movie, but everything just looks so natural with the HDR.

I feel so damn jealous... I don't get my copy of Logan for another five weeks!

I'm getting T2 Trainspotting on Monday, so will be looking forward to watching Robert Carlyle going full-Begbie in 4K/HDR!

That's great thanks. I'm sure I will press the button soon. Just ordered a new PC and am considering a 3D printer, so may be short of funds for a bit longer

Just got back from work and a parcel from Amazon was waiting for me... Not expecting this until Monday, so this'll give me something to watch tonight!

UPDATE: Just finished watching this and the HDR just took my breath away! As Jedi2016 mentioned, the scenes featuring low to medium illumation looks amazing, and the colours just pop out of the screen... And Begbie is psychotic as ever in 4K!

Looks like Guardians of The Galaxy, Volume 2 might be making it's way onto 4K Blu-ray: https://www.cnet.com/uk/news/guardia...st-4k-blu-ray/

Glad you've joined the club. If all goes well, I'll be able to throw in a copy of Independence Day with Ghostbusters (should be getting a second-hand retail copy soon).

Hope Disney gets it act together and releases all the Marvel and Star Wars movies.

My retail copy of Independence Day is due by Thursday, so hope to let you have the old copies of that and Ghostbusters shortly after. I'm working pretty much the whole of next week, so won't get a chance to post them off until early the following week.

Sounds great. I can meet you and pick them up. I'm in Ayr but up in Glasgow frequently.

Watched Oblivion last night. It looked incredible. Particularly the HDR skies.

Get me on gordon@vrgrowth.co.uk and we can arrange somewhere to meet etc

Received my copy of Hidden Figures two days early from Amazon, and watched it last night. This movie is one of my favourites, and the HDR on the disc (especially the CGI of John Glenn's Friendship 7 capsule orbiting the Earth and re-entering the atmosphere) was very impressive.

That's me up to 21 movies so far, with Logan due in about a weeks time.

There aren't that many out there - Amazon UK lists less than 180 titles currently in stock.

21 is impressive. I noticed Tesco is selling a few, which is a good start. They just need to get the normal price below that £20 mark and more people will get them, especially now there's a good sub £200 player.

And yes, Hidden Firures is an awesome move. Might order Logan.

Saw Logan over the weekend - Superhero movies are getting more than a bit predictable, but found this very impressive. (Apart from the highly predictable setup for the ending).

I'll have a look in Tesco myself... The nearest big one is in Silverburn, but won't get a chance to pop through until next week.

Apart from Amazon, the only other place that has a half decent range in stock is HMV.

UPDATE: Had a wee bit of time to kill before the train home, and popped into HMV... came out with Rise of The Planet of The Apes and Dawn of The Planet of the Apes. Did look at the last three X-Men movies, but might wait until the end of the month for those.

Wow, your HMV is much better than my local one. I think they only had 2 titles on 4K

I think they had around 40 or 50 titles, but their section is tucked away towards the back of the store...

On a brighter note, this has just been confirmed:

Gonna get myself some refreshments before I sit down in front of the 4K TV...

Deadpool is pretty awesome in 4K, as is most other Fox titles. Currently watching the black and white version of Logan, which really matches the darkness of the story. It even has the classic black and white Fox logo at the beginning!

Haven't really decided which titles to get next, but Guardians Volume 2 is certainly on the top of my list.

Picked up The Fifth Element today. Probably won't get to watch it until the weekend.

More like "The Fifth Purchase", amirite?

More like "The Fifth Purchase", amirite?
Don't want to make you jealous, but I'm up to my twenty-sixth purchase...

Haven't gotten round to watch the first two Planet of the Apes movies in 4K, but want to get them viewed on my next days off, so can see the new one on the big screen next week.

By the way, managed to catch a matinée showing of Spiderman: Homecoming on Wednesday... and was pleasantly surprised I had the ENTIRE screen to myself!

Had the same experience with The Lord of The Rings... DVD theatrical, DVD extended, Blu-ray theatrical and Blu-ray extended - once the 4K release comes out, that'll be five times the charm!

Just pre-ordered Spiderman: Homecoming, Baby Driver and War for the Planet of the Apes on Amazon, but STILL waiting for Guardians Volume 2 to appear for pre-order in 4K, but have heard it won't be out in the UK until early September.
