While lurking around here I feel compelled to comment on the notable designs and details this great community has to offer, if for no other reason than to give support to the modelers. I aspire to be on the level with you guys someday. These are some of those designs...I especially like the design of the fighter conceptually. Great job.

UPDATE...
I'm back at the cargo ship I made for the contest.
I've begun to work on the interior of the walkway. So far it's still kind of rough and I also need to add handles to the doors.

UPDATE...
I did some more work on the door and added a handle. I still need to come up with a way for the walkway parts to attach together. I also need to come up with fuel lines and other things to connect through these walk ways.

I've also blocked in more of the inside of the walkway. I'll have to add a few access ports so the crew can get into the cargo container. I'll also have to add a few removable panels to gain access to emergency supplies like food and cold suits. From time to time the connections between the walkways can fail. And sometimes it has happened with crew either in the walkway or the container.

UPDATE...
A bit more work done on the door textures. I've included a close up of the sign.
Now that I have a good idea that I can get the look that I wanted I'll probably start again from scratch.

UPDATE...
I wasn't all that happy with the door textures as they where so I decided to redo them in a more clean version. This would be how the door might look on a ship owned by a collector. Like a Jay Leno of spaceships.
I'll do dirtier versions later.

Well it's been a long time since I've worked on this ship but I've finally had some ideas to use. I also tend to lose interest in a project the closer I get to finishing.
The first two pictures show what I have in mind for some lighting. I also added what I thought might be an indicater to show if the door has a good seal or not. Unfortunatly I lost this work because of a bad file.
Lucky for me I was able to go back to another save and start again. A minor set back but it gave me some more ideas.
I reworked the light above the door and changed the color. I'm also thinking about adding some volumetrics to give it a little spooky feel. I also thought of adding a first aid kit and fire extinguisher at each door.
The last pic is a close up of the first aid kit.

Oops I forgot to mention that I did use a phot by John Eaves to see if I could get a used torn up poster effect. I'm no longer useing that image.

UPDATE...
Although not really because this ship was built before the U.E.G was formed. But it is because of this ship the U.E.G. was formed. This ship was built by the NASSA (North American States Space Administration) to be the first ship to leave our solar system. And it did so only by accident while engaging it’s engines an explosion ripped a hole in spce pulling the ship into friendly Ma’Aangan territory.
After floating nearly dead in space for 18 months a M’Aangan freighter found the ship and towed it back to the nearest inhabited world. Over several months the crew of the Columbus, still kept alive by their failing cryotubes are revived and their ship repared with the addition of Earths first FTL drive. This drive will become known as a jump engine.
The first use of this Jump engine will return the Columbus and her crew to Earth escorted by two Ships of the Royal M’Aangan Navy. Shortly after these incidents the United Earth Government is formed and the M’Aangan become it’s greatest ally.
I’m texturing this ship to be clean because I want it to be a museum piece.

I never stop working. Didn't actually care that much for the appleseed movies. They were ok but the cell shading gets on my nerves. The first ones story is better. But the second one looks better.
UPDATE...
pic 1 This is the main walkway that connects the engineering section to the main part of the ship. As originally designed this was gonna be the part that contained the seldom working first shot at artificial gravity. I decided to just add some observation rooms and put the A.G. handwavium somewhere in engineering. It's not exactly done yet there are still a few more details to add and textures to be done
pic 2 This is a view of the windows on the other side. In the original design it didn't have any windows and was made of 22 parts. Now it's made of 5 parts.
pic 3 This is how the Engineering section and main walkway look connected.

UPDATE...
I've gone back to work on the starfighter that I started with.
I finished the engine and added a bunch of the stuff to the spine of the ship. I also started on the side of ship including the magnetic docking clamps and weapons pocket.

Thanks man.

UPDATE...
I’ve done alot of work on the M’Aangan fighter and I’ve decided that it is piloted by a brain grown within the ship. I was also thinking that sometimes these ships can be mounted on the outside of larger capital ships incase of attack.

Added a bunch of details to the forward spine of the ship. Inluding the opening opening for the lower chin mounted cannons. Umbilical connections for fuel and nutrients for the pilot brain and other things. And other details I don't have a clue about.

This is just to show the umbilical connections.

This gives a better view of the detail added to the side of the ship. This time I built it instead of using a bump map.

This is the newly redesigned Royal Emblem for the M'Aagan Empire. I feel this one just looks stronger then the old one. It's basicly the same but this is less anorexic then the first version.

I like how the fighter has no windows, which implies a sophisticated sensor system.

When a pilot has no eyes why would it need windows.

UPDATE...
Started to work on the removable sensor pallet. I'll also do a laser weapon and perhaps missiles as well. I decided not to do the large side cannons I had on the original version of this ship.
Finished with the final details on the upper portion of the spine. There might be a few more small things to do.
I've added the chin cannons. I decided to go with something that wasn't round

Well not really I just recently started to work on it again. I was busy with many other projects.
Plus I'm very slow.
